Historical Legend of Wenfeng Pagoda in Liangping
The Xishan Mountain in liangping county is at the junction with Dazhu in Sichuan. The mountains of the Xishan Mountain are staggered and undulating. Its main peak is 118 meters above sea level, towering into the sky and standing upright like a fox, named as the fox's mouth. "Fox" heads east (in the direction of Liangping) and tails west (in the direction of Dazhu), and its mouth is just opposite the Liangping Dam with high yield of grain. People say that the fox's mouth "eats Liang Ping's big bamboo", which is really bad for Liang Ping. So Liangping people built Wenfeng Pagoda on Pingba, which is about 3 kilometers northwest of the county seat, in order to hold the mouth of the greedy fox. Since then, on the Liangping Dam, which is criss-crossed, there have been increasingly abundant grains.
According to the Records of Liangshan County in Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty, the Wenfeng Pagoda was built for another reason. In the seventh year of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty, Liang Yi ordered Xu Mingxiang to write down in the article "Rebuilding the Test Shed and Building the Tower": Liangshan County is the metropolis of eastern Sichuan, and it is the hometown of a great scholar who came to know virtue in the Ming Dynasty (the word is Yi Xian, the name is Mr. Qu Tang). At that time, the county called on the squire and wealthy businessmen to donate money to build a test shed for scholars to take part in the provincial examinations. Finally, there were more than 4,7 silver coins left. After discussion, it was decided to use these silver coins to build a floating picture with geomantic omen outside the north gate of the county town, and to encourage Liang Ping to learn "Kejia reelected, articles serve the country, and he must be well-known as a Confucian, following Mr. Qu Tang, and be a self-glorified person".
The "floating picture" here originally refers to Buddhist pagodas, and later refers to high towers. It can be seen from the historical data that the construction of Wenfeng Pagoda in Liangping is not due to Buddhism, let alone folklore, but to the good hopes and sustenance of the sages of Liangping for the people and future generations.
after more than a hundred years of wind and rain erosion, the tower body of Wenfeng Tower has been severely weathered, and the wooden buildings in the tower have been completely destroyed. In May, 29, with the efforts of the cultural relics department of liangping county, Wenfeng Tower repaired the wooden building on the first to tenth floors, the ground and fence of the tower foundation, and the wind resistance of the tower body was strengthened.
this magnificent, strange and beautiful stone pagoda has suffered from years, been baptized by war and threatened by earthquake, and still stands proudly and stands still, becoming a wonderful landscape of Liangping mountains and rivers.
