Poplar fluff drifts in spring, usually starting from the beginning of April, but the climate in each area is different, and some areas begin to drift in late March. Poplar wool can float for half a month, so it almost stopped in May. Not all poplar trees will float, but only female trees will float in spring.

Poplar flocculant, alias: Populus tomentosa, Populus tomentosa, Populus tomentosa and Populus tomentosa, is a plant of Salicaceae and Populus, with white wood and flat texture, which can be used as building, furniture, box boards, matchsticks, paper making and other materials, and is the raw material of man-made fibers. Populus tomentosa has good quality, fast growth, long life, drought resistance and salt tolerance, and is an excellent landscaping or street tree planted by people all over the country.

Causes of Poplar Flocculation

Flocculation is a natural phenomenon that poplar and willow seeds mature, crack and spread under certain weather conditions. Taking Populus tomentosa as an example, according to the statistics of plant phenology map, only the daily average temperature > 0℃ is the useful temperature for the growth and development of Populus tomentosa.

When these values above 0℃ are added up, when the total (accumulated temperature) reaches 480℃ and the daily average temperature reaches 14℃, the fruits of Populus tomentosa begin to ripen and burst, and catkins begin to fly.

In spring, when the highest daytime temperature exceeds 25℃ for three consecutive days, it is the most favorable temperature for seed maturity. Moreover, in sunny days, the high incidence period of flying flocs is generally from 10 in the morning to 16 in the afternoon. Catkin generally lasts more than half a month from the beginning to the end, and the peak period is about one week.
