How to draw an octagonal shape for woodworking ceiling?

Method 1:

Draw a circle with half the diagonal of the octagon as the radius

Draw two mutually perpendicular diameters and divide the circle into 4 equal parts.

Then divide these 4 equal parts into 8 equal parts of 45°

Connect these 8 equal points on the circumference of the garden in pairs,

Method 2:

Use a square ruler to draw a rectangle with 2 short sides and 4 long sides.
