Japan Professional Football League B, sponsored by Japan Professional Football League, is the second-level football league in Japan after Japan Professional Football League A. The first tournament was held in 1999. The league has always adopted a single-stage system from its establishment to the 20 18 season.

1999 was born because of the grading competition system of J League. In the first year, the teams were composed of two clubs that failed in the final battle of J 1 and eight clubs that volunteered to join the J League in the seventh Japanese Football League (JFL).

At first, the alliance didn't have a title dealer. From the 20 15 season, Meiji An Tian Life Insurance Company named the whole J League, and the full name of J2 League was changed to "Meiji An Tian Life J2 League".

Alliance rules

1, 22 teams play home and away double-cycle single-stage games, * * * 42 rounds of leagues, and the final ranking is determined according to the results.

2. The first half lasts 45 minutes each. After 90 minutes, if the score is the same, there will be no overtime and a draw will be awarded. Winner has 3 points, draw 1 point, and loser has 0 point.

3. The time-sharing ranking order is: goal difference → number of goals → mutual recording → fair competition points → lottery.

4. In principle, the champion and runner-up of 4.J2 League can directly advance to J 1 League next season. However, if the champion and runner-up team fails to obtain the J 1 league license next season, the qualification will not be postponed, but the number of relegated teams of J 1 will be reduced.

There will be a round of semi-finals (3-6, 4-5) and play-off finals for the 3rd to 6th places in J2 League. The top teams have home court advantage, and if they draw, they will be promoted. The winner of the upgrade play-offs will play another round of upgrade play-offs with the16th place of J 1. J 1 team has home court advantage, and a draw can avoid relegation.

5. In principle, J2 2 1 and 22nd will be directly relegated to J3 League next season. However, 2 1 will be downgraded if one of the J3 league champions and runners-up does not have a J2 league license next season. 2 1 and 22 will be relegated if the 3rd runner-up and 3rd runner-up in J3 League do not have J2 League license next season.
