Which university is Weiming Lake in?
Peking University.
Weiming Lake and Boya Tower are iconic attractions of Peking University.
Weiming Lake is the largest artificial lake on the Peking University campus, located in the north-central part of the campus. The shape is U-shaped. There is a stone fish sculpture in the southern part of the lake, and there is an island in the middle of the lake, which is connected to the north shore by a bridge. There is a stone boat at the southern end of the island in the center of the lake. On the south bank of the lake are the Bell Pavilion, Linhu Pavilion, Flower Temple and the tomb of Edgar Snow. It is one of the iconic landscapes of Peking University.
The Boya Pagoda is located on a hill southeast of Weiming Lake of Peking University. It is modeled after the Tongzhou Randen Buddha Relic Pagoda and built in the style of the dense-eaves brick pagoda of the Liao Dynasty. It was originally the campus water tower.
Extended information:
The design of Boya Pagoda refers to the Dengden Buddha Relic Pagoda in Tongzhou. The Boya Tower has "13 levels, 280 feet high, 140 feet in circumference, and is hollow." It is only 37 meters high, with a well depth of 164 feet. The water spray is more than ten feet above the ground, with a water spray volume of 16,000 gallons per hour ( (total 60560 liters). The internal structure is hollow, with a spiral staircase leading directly to the top of the tower. Except for the base, it is entirely made of reinforced concrete and is well designed.
The construction company at that time went bankrupt due to inaccurate labor estimates, resulting in losses, and had to change hands three times. Since the buildings on the Peking University campus at that time were all named after the donors' surnames, the Boya Tower was mainly donated and built by Lucius Chapin Porter (1880-1958, then living in the United States), a professor of the Department of Philosophy at Peking University. It was named "Boyata".
