Lee Kuan Yew's territory-Singapore-is really small and has a small population.

When I travel to Singapore, I feel that the country is not as big as Guangzhou, and everyone feels "very manageable".

In China, Lee Kuan Yew is the party secretary, but because Singapore is an independent country, Lee Kuan Yew has become the "father of the country" of Singapore.

The history of Lee Kuan Yew's counterattack is legendary. His ancestral home is Meizhou, Guangdong. Earlier, his great-grandfather went to Nanyang and settled in Singapore.

Lee Kuan Yew's grandfather, Li Yunlong, worked hard in Singapore, running a shipping company and rubber business, and became a big local family.

Lee Kuan Yew's father, Li Jinkun, is the eldest son of the family, but he is also a playboy infected with gambling and other bad habits.

Lee Kuan Yew worshipped his grandfather and despised his father since childhood. Fortunately, his mother is stronger and his grandfather is stronger. So even though his family came down, he received a good western education and was admitted to Cambridge University at the age of 16.

Lee Kuan Yew is a fourth-generation immigrant. His family can speak English and Malay, but not Chinese. At that time, Singapore was still a colony, and he was discriminated against in the local Chinese community because he could not speak.

When World War II broke out, Lee Kuan Yew's studies were interrupted and he had to go home.

After Pearl Harbor, Japan invaded Southeast Asia and occupied Singapore, and Lee Kuan Yew was also traced as an anti-Japanese. However, he is very clever. He took this opportunity to improve his Japanese and became a Japanese translator for a newspaper with his fluency in Japanese and English. He can support his family and understand the world.

After the Japanese army surrendered, Lee Kuan Yew returned to school to take the Cambridge University exam again, and met his wife Ke Yuzhi here.

Both of them were admitted to Cambridge and married in the UK on 1947.

Lee Kuan Yew studied law in Cambridge and opened a law firm in Singapore after returning to China. At that time, Singapore was still a British colony. Citing British law, he became famous for helping people to go to court and accumulated certain political prestige.

1954, Lee Kuan Yew founded the People's Action Party and served as Secretary-General. The next year, he participated in the Legislative Assembly election, but because he could not read and write Chinese, he was considered unqualified to represent Chinese voters.

Lee Kuan Yew was so angry that he planned to learn Chinese like a thief, and later became a legislator.

At that time, British colonial rule had weakened, and Singapore seized the opportunity to declare independence on 1959. At the age of 35, Lee Kuan Yew was elected Prime Minister of Singapore's first autonomous government.

At the beginning of independence, Singapore was powerless. He always wanted to merge with Malaya to form "Malaysia".

After many efforts, from 65438 to 0963, Singapore and Malaya merged to form the Malaysian Federation. However, after the merger, due to the racial chauvinism in Malaysia, Singaporeans were widely excluded, and Singapore seceded from the Federation in 1965 and declared its independence.

Singapore's independence at that time was entirely due to the Malaysian authorities' fear of productism and China's anxiety about interfering in other countries' internal affairs, which forced Singapore out of Malaysia.

At that time, Lee Kuan Yew and his People's Action Party petitioned many times to stay in Malaysia. After Singapore became truly independent, Lee Kuan Yew burst into tears.

At independence, Singapore was a tiny place with no natural resources and no industry. The traditional port trade is declining, and there are threats of ethnic conflicts and riots within it. Together with Malaysia and Indonesia, Singapore's water supply may be cut off at any time.

Such a small territory, if you want to become an independent country, how can you live in a country as strong as a forest on earth? If you are poor, change it. Lee Kuan Yew began to think of ways and vowed to build Singapore well.

Singapore is too small. If another war breaks out, it will be shot down in a few minutes. Therefore, Lee Kuan Yew first sought recognition from the international community and joined the United Nations. In this way, if other countries attack you, it is aggression and morally untenable.

Then, he hugged Britain's thigh and became a member of the Commonwealth. Although the Commonwealth is a loose organization, which country wants to fight Singapore must give old Britain some face.

He also learned management from Japan, which invaded this land.

Although Singapore has also been invaded by Japan, their feelings towards Japan are different from those of us in China, because they are immigrants themselves and are not their territory, and the Japanese aggression is not long and the intensity is small, so they can forgive Japan more easily.

At the same time, Lee Kuan Yew studied national military service from Israel and formed the armed forces.

In diplomacy, he learned from Switzerland, remained neutral in diplomacy, did not cause trouble or make enemies internationally, and devoted himself to developing the economy.

After several combinations, Lee Kuan Yew felt that the possibility of being invaded by a big country became smaller, so he set out to develop the economy.

At that time, China was busy with the ten-year catastrophe. Lee Kuan Yew thinks that learning from the West and moving closer to Singapore is the way to achieve counterattack. So he forced schools to carry out English education, canceled traditional Chinese teaching and began to develop light industry, foreign trade, finance and port economy.

When he was in power, he paid attention to fighting corruption and was strict in rewards and punishments. At that time, Singapore's politics was very clear. It was absolutely impossible to "never do it again" after breaking the law in Singapore, because those who broke the law would be punished as soon as they were caught. What are you afraid of?

After all, it is a small country with a small population. Through this combination, Singapore gradually prospered. Of course, the rapid prosperity of the four little dragons in Asia was mainly due to catching up with the opportunity of the third industrial revolution, when China had not yet reformed.

As soon as China was reformed, Lee Kuan Yew was keenly aware of the impending rise of the great powers in the East, and immediately launched a nationwide campaign to speak Chinese.

In less than 50 years, Singapore has not only solved a series of internal and external troubles, but also completed the economic transformation from the third world to the first world, and even gained a huge international status (Singaporeans do not need visas to go to all parts of the world 170 countries).

Singapore's sound legal system, social visibility and fairness, city livability and people's wealth are also impressive. At least I personally like this country.

Lee Kuan Yew can be regarded as a very awesome entrepreneur, except that others started a business, and he started a country.

Of course, the reason why Singapore can create these amazing miracles cannot be attributed to Lee Kuan Yew alone.

A tiny place can create such a great miracle, of course, depending on the weather, geographical location, people and other factors.

If the weather is fine, the 50 years after the war will be the 50 years of rapid development of all countries.

Geographically speaking, Singapore has advantages that two other countries do not have, and it is difficult to get rich.

One is the annual passage fee and port trade in the Straits of Malacca, which brings a steady stream of income to Singapore.

Another reason is that Singapore is surrounded by Muslim countries. In Islam, it is not allowed to charge interest on deposits and loans. Therefore, the funds of these countries must always find a convenient and safe place that can give annual interest. It happens that Singapore naturally becomes an international financial center because of its geographical location.

In terms of man and harmony, Lee Kuan Yew's political thought is very westernized. He carried out a series of drastic reforms. In addition, Chinese in Singapore are the majority. These China people are of high quality and are very United and diligent. It is very easy for policy makers and people to work together to build this country with a small population.

In 2005, Lee Kuan Yew appointed his son Lee Hsien Loong as the new prime minister (Goh Chok Tong, the second prime minister, actually listened to Lee Kuan Yew, but was only in the middle of power transition).

Compared with his father, this son has a more general political structure.

For a small country like Singapore, not choosing a sideline in international relations is the choice to maximize interests. As a result, he openly chose to side with the United States and Japan on the South China Sea and TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, which was created by the United States and Japan to surround China and later abolished by Trump), and had little to do with China.

In 20 13, Lee Kuan Yew published his book "Lee Kuan Yew's World Outlook". In the book, he predicted several points:

First, the euro zone will disintegrate in the future;

Second, the United States is no longer strong;

Third, Japan will gradually become mediocre.

Fourth, India's economy cannot develop;

Fifth, China's strength is the norm;

Sixth, I'm not sure if Singapore will still exist.

Now we feel that his prediction seems to be slowly coming true-Singapore may still exist, but not necessarily in the form of "Lee's Singapore".

In 20 15, Lee Kuan Yew died at the age of 9 1 year.

On 20 16, Gwadar Port of China and Pakistan officially set sail, and later built a port with Malaysia in Malacca. In the past, Singapore was "refreshed" by the port advantage of Malacca.

Moreover, as the tide turns, the economic development momentum of the four little dragons in Asia has declined, while China has risen rapidly at a speed visible to the naked eye.

In 20 17, Lee Hsien Loong also had an inheritance dispute with his younger brother and sister, and the political reputation of the Lee family in Singapore further declined. As for whether this infighting can cut off the Li family's political road, let's talk about it later.

Anyway, in my opinion, every dynasty is a family company.

When a powerful person makes rules and everyone is willing to abide by them, the family company will flourish. If not, it is easy to roll over.

Family companies or non-family enterprises, the world belongs to "smart people", not "people in the collective".

It is said that Lee Kuan Yew is called the father of the country in Singapore, but Malaysian Chinese are very disgusted with Lee Kuan Yew. The main reason may be the psychological imbalance of Malays.

The previous generation of Chinese in Malaysia believed that Lee Kuan Yew abandoned the Chinese in Kuala Lumpur and Penang for independence, and later made the Chinese in Singapore live so well, while the Chinese in Malaysia, although rich, had to live in a slightly worse Malaysia with Malays and Indians.

Malaysian and Indonesian traditional Chinese are proud of China culture, but they also look down on Singaporeans whose traditional culture is pale.

Of course, Singaporeans look down on the traditional Chinese in Malaysia and Indonesia, mainly because they are not as good as them.

Singaporeans also have ambivalence towards wealthy China people. On the one hand, they want to know how China people became rich. On the other hand, they don't respect China people very much. In fact, for more than three generations, Singaporeans are just traditional China people.

In fact, Singapore is also afraid of Malaysia, because its land is too small, and food, fruits and vegetables and even water sources need to be supplied by Malaysia.

Perhaps it is precisely because of this sense of crisis that Singapore began to build dams to intercept the water of the Singapore River for future use as a drinking water source.

In order to curb Singapore's port trade, China and Malaysia reached an agreement to build a port in the Straits of Malacca. Singapore is disgusted with this, while Malaysians are gratified and encouraged.

Chinese Malays hope that China will become stronger and stronger, and their own country will become stronger and stronger, so that Singaporeans will no longer be dragged down.
