Time and method of apricot grafting (the best step of grafting apricot in spring)

Apricot, also known as North American apricot, is one of the oldest cultivated fruit trees in China. It originated in Xinjiang, China, and has been widely distributed in North China. Apricot grafting is mainly carried out in spring, summer and autumn. Grafting method: select a smooth place on the rootstock and cut a knife 2.5cm above the transverse incision according to the xylem to remove the peel; Cut a knife under the bud 1cm, then cut a knife on the bud 1cm, and take out the cut bud. Stick the cut bud on the cutting part of the rootstock and tie it tightly. Next, let's learn about the specific method and time of apricot grafting.

1. Grafting step

Anvil cutting: select a smooth place in the part to be grafted, cross-cut a knife below, then cut a knife vertically according to the xylem 2.5cm above the cross-cut, and then take it off and peel it. Pruning: First, cut a knife horizontally at 1cm below the bud, then cut a knife vertically at 1cm above the bud, and then take out the pruned bud with the same size as peeling. Binding: stick the cut buds on the cutting part of the rootstock and bind them.

2. Preventive measures

When grafting, choose healthy branches, check them about ten days after grafting, and water them in time before and after grafting to promote the flow of juice and improve the survival rate of grafting. If there are buds after survival, they should be pulled out in time, otherwise they will consume nutrients.

3. Grafting selection

Apricot belongs to the genus Apricot, so it is necessary to select the same variety of fruit trees for successful grafting, such as plum trees and hawthorn trees. Fruit trees of the same subfamily can also be grafted with apricot trees, such as plum trees and peach trees. But cherry trees can't be grafted with apricot trees. Although cherry tree is also a subfamily fruit tree, its affinity is weak and its gum flow is serious when grafting. Therefore, it is not recommended to graft apricot and cherry trees.

4. Grafting time

Because premature sap does not flow, too late rootstocks and scions will affect the survival rate, so grafting is generally carried out before and after leaf bud germination in spring. Grafting should be carried out when the weather is clear in summer and autumn, otherwise it will also affect the survival rate.
