Designers are using it as a wood structure building material for future cities?
Bates Smart plans to build the tallest wooden structure in Australia.
CLT wood structure system is a new modern wood structure system and a heavy wood structure. It is not only suitable for low-rise villas but also for middle and high-rise buildings, giving people a feeling similar to masonry and concrete. The sound insulation and fire resistance of this material are much higher than those of raw materials, and it can realize standardized production and prefabricated construction, so it is a new material that has attracted much attention in the construction industry at present.
Tall buildings with wooden structures will rise all over the world. Designers seem to try to use this new type of wooden frame system to break the rules and challenge the norms. Why is CLT system so respected by foreign designers?
1, what is CLT?
CLT (cross-laminated timber) is a new type of wood building material, which is called cross-laminated timber (also translated as cross-laminated timber). Characterized in that standard wood with horizontal stripes and vertical stripes is glued and molded.
The odd-numbered layer principle requires the CLT board to have odd-numbered layers, usually 3-7 layers. A typical CLT member has at least 3 glued layers, and adjacent two layers of plates are vertically staggered.
The material unit for manufacturing CLT is standard wood or structural composite wood (SCL), such as laminated veneer lumber (LVL), laminated veneer lumber (LSL) or oriented laminated veneer lumber (OSL).
Large CLT can be directly cut and used as external wall, floor, etc. It can greatly improve the construction efficiency of the project. The buildings built with this material and assembled construction technology have the advantages of environmental protection, energy saving, rapid construction, low pollution and low noise.
This new wooden building material was first reported by Germany and Austria in 1990, and the first CLT building was born in Europe. Since the technology came out in 2000, it has attracted the attention of the green building industry because of its natural materials and excellent performance.
At first, it was widely used in residential buildings and public buildings in Europe, and developed rapidly in North America. Later, Japan also carried out corresponding research, and now it is used in all kinds of wood structures in many developed countries.
2. Use of CLT
"CLT is used for small measuring equipment"
Quitela Su
Design: ofa
Venue: Jiushi Station, Zhenting City, Okayama Prefecture, Japan
Building area: 70 square meters
Put into use: 2065438+March 20, 2007
This is a CLT demonstration building built by Japan next to the station, which is mainly used as a public toilet and a rest space. The building is an ultra-simple building structure made of CLT material, which was completed in half a day on site.

Design: Banmao Architecture Office
Venue: Tokyo, Japan
Put into use: 20 16
In this scheme, staggered building blocks (CLT) are used to construct beams and columns, and large-span open space is realized without internal supporting columns. The dining room on the first floor uses paper pipes to match the surrounding wood structure, and the upper two floors are apartments. Its structural system once again provides the possibility for the flexible layout of the internal space.
"『CLT is used in 6-storey office buildings.
Taiwan Province province senke headquarters building
Architectural Design: Origin Architecture Office
Venue: Taiwan Province Province, China.
Covering area: 600.0 square meters
Completion time: 20 14.
This design attempts to break the stereotype that CLT architecture is like a "square box". In shaping the shape, the building shows itself through the combination of solid walls and transparent glass stairs. On one side of the building, light can pass through the stairs to form a dramatic space effect.
"CLT is used in high-rise apartments"
Student apartment of UBC University in Canada
The project adopts the latest wood building materials (CLT) and construction technology, and adopts bim method to manage the project as a whole, which exceeds the requirements in terms of fire resistance and earthquake resistance.

Venue: UBC University, Canada
Completion time: 20 16
The student apartment of UBC University in Canada is the first mixed building with more than 14 floors in the world, which adopts various structural forms such as heavy wood, light steel and concrete. The first floor of the building is a concrete structure, plus two concrete core tubes, and the rest 17 floor is composed of CLT floor and glued wood beams. 70% of the materials used for hanging panels on the facade are wood fibers, and the building is 53 meters high (it was the tallest wooden structure in the world before it was completed). The building was completed four months ahead of schedule, which fully demonstrated the advantages of using wood.
CLT construction method has high efficiency, high speed and low requirements for weather, which can greatly improve the construction progress. This new type of engineering wood product not only has high strength and environmental protection, but also has its own fire prevention function, so it can provide flexible design scheme, competitive cost and excellent structural strength for wood structure buildings.
In recent years, China's wooden buildings have developed rapidly and the market is broad. Wood structures are used in many fields, such as houses, hotels, teahouses and so on. It plays an important role in post-earthquake reconstruction and tourism resources development, and it can be predicted that wooden buildings will usher in the spring of development.
CLT architecture may become the future development direction of wood structure architecture in China, which is applied to domestic homestays, holiday villas, mobile wooden houses and so on. At present, the application of staggered laminated timber (CLT) technology in China is still in the popularization stage. However, with the research of CLT construction methods and the improvement of building regulations in China, the application prospect of CLT architecture in China is still worth looking forward to.
