CLT wood structure system is a new modern wood structure system and a heavy wood structure. It is not only suitable for low-rise villas but also for middle and high-rise buildings, giving people a feeling similar to masonry and concrete. The sound insulation and fire resistance of this material are much higher than those of raw materials, and it can realize standardized production and prefabricated construction, so it is a new material that has attracted much attention in the construction industry at present.

Tall buildings with wooden structures will rise all over the world. Designers seem to try to use this new type of wooden frame system to break the rules and challenge the norms. Why is CLT system so respected by foreign designers?

1, what is CLT?

CLT (cross-laminated timber) is a new type of wood building material, which is called cross-laminated timber (also translated as cross-laminated timber). Characterized in that standard wood with horizontal stripes and vertical stripes is glued and molded.

The odd-numbered layer principle requires the CLT board to have odd-numbered layers, usually 3-7 layers. A typical CLT member has at least 3 glued layers, and adjacent two layers of plates are vertically staggered.

The material unit for manufacturing CLT is standard wood or structural composite wood (SCL), such as laminated veneer lumber (LVL), laminated veneer lumber (LSL) or oriented laminated veneer lumber (OSL).

Large CLT can be directly cut and used as external wall, floor, etc. It can greatly improve the construction efficiency of the project. The buildings built with this material and assembled construction technology have the advantages of environmental protection, energy saving, rapid construction, low pollution and low noise.

This new wooden building material was first reported by Germany and Austria in 1990, and the first CLT building was born in Europe. Since the technology came out in 2000, it has attracted the attention of the green building industry because of its natural materials and excellent performance.

At first, it was widely used in residential buildings and public buildings in Europe, and developed rapidly in North America. Later, Japan also carried out corresponding research, and now it is used in all kinds of wood structures in many developed countries.

The student apartment of UBC University in Canada is the first mixed building with more than 14 floors in the world, which adopts various structural forms such as heavy wood, light steel and concrete.
