Geomantic Interpretation of the Book of Changes
What is the relationship between yin and yang and five elements?
On the Relationship between Yin and Yang and Five Elements
"Between heaven and earth, only dynamic and static points of Yin and Yang; There are old and young, so they are divided into four elephants. When the old man is extremely quiet, it is because the sun is too cloudy. Young people are quiet when they first move, for the sake of less yang and less yin. There are four elephants, and five elements are among them. Water, lunar also; Fire sun also; Wood, shaoyang; Gold, less yin; The mortal world is caused by yin and yang, old and young, wood fire and golden water rush. " Here, the relationship between Yin and Yang, four images and five elements is clearly pointed out: the five elements are another expression of the four images, that is to say, the five elements are formed by Yin and Yang, that is, Yin and Yang give birth to the five elements.
In addition, we can also see the relationship between the four images and the five elements from the discourses of some Yi-ology masters, such as Song? Confucius said in Liu Mu's Yi Shu Gou Yin Tu that "gold, wood, water and fire exist between heaven and earth, so the cloud' two instruments give birth to four images'". The soil is divided into four seasons, and there are differences in the land. There are only four clouds. This paper clearly points out the relationship between the four images and the five elements: that is, the four images are gold, wood, water and fire in the five elements. There are also many Yi scholars who think that the four elephants are spring, summer, autumn and winter in time, east, west, north and south in space, and among the six gods are Qinglong, Suzaku, White Tiger and Xuanwu. For example, Gao Feng said in the Book of Changes: "The four emotions of Shaoyang, Lao Yang, Shaoyin and Laoyin are like the four seasons, and gossip is composed of these four emotions." Whether it is spring, summer, autumn, winter, east, west, north and south, or Qinglong Suzaku White Tiger Xuanwu, it all represents the gold, wood, water and fire in the five elements, which means that the gold, wood, water and fire in the five elements are four elephants.
The earth in the five elements is a line of four images-wood, fire, gold and water. Native soil is a mixture, so the ancients regarded soil as dirty and represented the gastrointestinal digestive system with human image. It is precisely because there are all things in the soil that there is a saying that "everything is born in the soil", and it is precisely because of this that Kun is the mother in the Book of Changes. Soil is a special element in the five elements. The most primitive evolution, two instruments gave birth to four elephants, without soil. At this time, the four elephants occupied their respective positions in time and space. Then, in the time and space occupied by the four elephants, the four elephants meet and intersect to form a mixture, which is soil. The center is where the four elephants meet, and all four elephants meet here, so their homeland lives in the center; The four corners are the intersection of every two objects in the four images, so the native land is sent to the four corners (so the branches in the four corners are all soil, and the branches in the four corners contain soil except seawater).
It can be seen that the five elements are another expression of the four images, which are generated by yin and yang, so the five elements are also generated by yin and yang. Yin-yang and five elements are the same philosophical system.
After yin and yang generate the five elements, the five elements become the five initial and most basic elements that constitute the universe and everything in the universe, so the first meaning of the five elements is the five most basic elements. The attributes of the five basic elements are different, so the five elements represent five attributes, so the second meaning of the five elements is five attributes. The five elements are generated by yin and yang, which are dynamic and static. The initial nature of Yang is dynamic, while the initial nature of Yin is static. One wants to move, the other is blocked, and "moving" will only produce different forms of movement if it is blocked. For example, a moving object will slow down only if it is hindered, and there will be such a slow-down motion form-it is precisely because of the interaction of yin and yang that five different motion forms-five elements; Five different sports forms naturally have five different properties. The essence of everything in the world is the result of movement. So the third meaning of the five elements is five kinds of movements (at this time, the "line" of the five elements means running), or five kinds of kinetic energy. There is such a sentence in the interpretation of sweet potatoes in the Book of Changes: "Heaven is healthy, and gentlemen are constantly striving for self-improvement." The "line" in this sentence means motion and represents kinetic energy. "Three Life Club" says: "The five elements are between heaven and earth, and they are not poor, so they are called five elements." It can be seen that the five elements represent five kinds of kinetic energy between heaven and earth. Therefore, it is very one-sided to simply understand the five elements as five substances. If we can't simply understand "gold" as gold or metal, we can't simply understand water as the water we drink and use in our daily life.
The biggest relationship between substances in the universe is kinetic energy. Philosophically speaking, movement is a characteristic of matter. The nature and relationship of matter in the universe, itself and each other, all come from movement and are also different manifestations of movement. "Zhouyi" uses five elements to express motion and kinetic energy, and expresses the direction of motion and the transformation form of kinetic energy through the generation and grams of five elements.
Yin-yang and five elements
China's ancient philosophy thought that "the sky descends Yang, the earth emerges Yin, and Yin and Yang combine to form five elements" (A Preface of Li Gou Deleting Yi Tu). That is, the five elements originated from the qi of yin and yang, and the interaction of yin and yang produced the five elements. "Yin becomes Yang, giving birth to water, fire, wood, gold and earth. Five elements and cloth are different in four seasons. " "Five behaviors are yin and yang, yin and yang are Tai Chi, and Tai Chi is endless." The five elements are born with their own characteristics "(Volume I of Imperial Compilation Nature Essentials). Medical education network collects and sorts out "yin and yang are five elements, with points, such as wood, water, fire and yin;" "There is harmony, such as the armor of wood, the C of fire, the E of soil, the Geng of gold and the nonyl of water, all of which are yang, while B, D, C and D are all yin. This shows the principle of the five permanent members "(Volume 10 of the King James Version). That is, Tai Chi gives birth to Yin and Yang, and Yin and Yang transform the five elements. As far as the five elements of yin and yang are concerned, wood fire belongs to yang, golden water belongs to yin, and the five elements have yin and yang. Wood is one, fire is the third, soil is the fifth, gold is the Geng, water is the Yang, wood is the second, fire is the Ding, soil is the self, gold is the Xin, and water is the Yin.
The world is based on Qi, the movement of Qi is Yin and Yang, Qi is the body of Yin and Yang, and Yin and Yang are used by Qi. The combination of yin and yang produces five elements. The so-called "Tai Chi means to move and be quiet, but the two instruments are divided, and the yin and yang are changed and combined, and the five elements are used" (Volume I of Imperial Compilation Nature Essentials). In short, "this is a kind of qi, which is divided into yin and yang and subdivided into five elements." Five Qi means two Qi, and two Qi means one Qi "(Wu Cheng's Answer to People's Questions in Wu Wenzheng and Gong Ji). Qi is divided into yin and yang, and yin and yang give birth to five elements, both of which are qi.
Interpretation of five elements
The Five Elements is China's ancient philosophical theory, which belongs to the ancients' understanding of material attributes and their relationships. The theory of five elements in medicine is the combination of ancient naive materialism, spontaneous dialectical thinking method and medical experiment. "Five" refers to wood, fire, earth, gold and water, and "walking" refers to sports. Based on the attributes of five elements, this theory relates to human viscera and organs, and explains some physiological phenomena and pathological changes with the theories of "mutual generation", "mutual resistance", "multiplication" and "mutual regret", thus summing up clinical experience. Basic content: the characteristics of zang-fu organs are divided according to the attributes of five elements. Such as live, tendons and eye; Heart, pulse and tongue belong to fire; Spleen, meat and mouth belong to soil; Lung, fur and nose belong to gold; Water from kidney, bone and ear points, etc. Explain the physiological phenomenon of viscera-viscera interaction with each other by the relationship between birth and control. For example, the liver can control the spleen (Wooducaceae), the spleen can nourish the lung (native gold), and the lung can control the liver (Jin Kemu). Thus, the relationship between viscera and organs is explained, which maintains and coordinates physiological activities. The relationship between bullying and being bullied is used to explain its pathological changes and treatment methods. If the liver disease invades the spleen, it is the wood that absorbs the soil, and the treatment should adopt the method of restraining the wood and supporting the soil; The treatment of lung qi deficiency is to strengthen the spleen and replenish the lung, which is called the method of nourishing soil and generating gold. It can be seen that the theory of five elements runs through all aspects of medicine, including some valuable clinical experiences of the ancients, and is also the basic theory of China's medicine. It emphasizes the view that things are interdependent and mutually restrictive. It played a certain role in the development of ancient medicine.
