What are the calligraphy works of Dou Fang?
Doufang originated from the chishu and manuscripts of ancient literati. The size is small, either square, rectangular or flat.
Most of the ancient Dou Fang works were practical, easy to carry and play with, and were generally not suitable for exhibitions. With the development of the times, the improvement of material life and people's demand for spiritual culture, a large number of calligraphy and painting works have appeared in large-scale exhibitions, and have moved from exhibition halls to homes or halls.
Dou Fang’s works are very suitable for ordinary home environments because of their format, which has attracted many calligraphers to boldly innovate in Dou Fang creations.
Dou Fang’s work includes Liu Yuxi’s “Inscription on a Humble Room”. The main text is 81 words, arranged in 9 lines, each line has 9 words, and a new line is added at the end for signature. The layout of the composition is completely based on the "Jiucheng Palace Stele", with rows horizontally and columns vertically, the word spacing is roughly equal to the line spacing, the words are independent, tall and thin, the rows follow each other, and the composition is organized. The signature is written in running script, which seems to be flowing like clouds and flowing water. It contrasts with the orderliness of the main text and avoids singleness and rigidity.
