Attractions

Wenming Pavilion

This is a small temple built on the mountain. It is a place where local villagers worship gods. When you reach Wenming Pavilion, continue climbing. A platform is used by local people to pray for rain. When you climb up, you can see the river and pastoral farms. There is a lawn under the Wenming Pavilion. Huang Yao's children will definitely encourage you to set off fireworks and have barbecue at night. It is also good to watch the stars here. But after the barbecue, don’t forget to pack away the garbage bags and fireworks cans you brought, and take away paper towels and other sundries.

Kong Mingyan

Kongmingyan is located on the hillside of Sanbao Mountain in Zhongdong Village, 8 kilometers away from Huangyao Ancient Town. The stalactites in the cave are so magnificent that people can’t help but marvel at the miraculous craftsmanship of nature. , this is an undeveloped cave with great development value.

Zhoujia Reservoir

It is about three or four kilometers away in the direction of Zhaoping. It costs 1 yuan to take a tricycle, or you can also walk. There are 20 public bamboo rafts in this reservoir, which can be used at will, but safety must be paid attention to. On the way to the reservoir, the pastoral scenery on both sides is very good. The unique yellow mud brick walls of the area, coupled with the vertical and horizontal streets, give a soft feeling. On the way back, we looked at the ancient town in the distance. Behind the town, there are towering karst peaks, which are simple and beautiful.

Festivals

When I was in Huang Yao, I checked the local old monthly magazine and saw two festivals. One is the third day of the third month of the lunar calendar, when operas are sung on the ancient stage; the other is the lunar calendar. On July 14th and 15th, there is a custom of worshiping the river god (lighting grapefruit lanterns and placing them in the river at night). The ceremony lasts about 2-3 hours. In short, Huang Yao cannot be played in one day, nor can it be felt after staying for one night. It takes time to experience it. The folk customs here are simple and ancient, making people feel that time is passing by.

Dongmen Tower

Dongmen Tower was built in the early Qing Dynasty. It is a single city gate tower with a square plane and brick structure. During the Qing Dynasty, Huangyao was a famous town on the sea access to western Hunan and northern Guangxi. The couplet on the gatehouse reflects this special geographical location: The water of Yao River passes through Guijiang and Xijiang rivers to the Pearl River and South China Sea. It is a bridge channel connecting the outside world, connecting the east gate. The building is likened to the Five Phoenix Tower in the capital, with Luofeng and Wenxia as barriers. It is an ancient town in Nanguan, Xiongzhen.

The former site of the Guangxi Provincial Working Committee

In the winter of 1944, Japan invaded Guangxi and Guilin fell (Guilin was the seat of the Provincial Working Committee at that time). The Guangxi Provincial Working Committee moved under the leadership of Qian Xing When he arrived at Huangyao, he carried out his work in a hidden way with the view of Baozhu. At that time, a large number of celebrities including He Xiangning, Ouyang Yuqian, Qian Jiaju, Zhang Xichang and others were evacuated to Huangyao with the Provincial Working Committee. To commemorate this period of history, the Guangxi Provincial People's Government designated Baozhu Temple as the former site of the Guangxi Provincial Working Committee, and in 1990 it was listed as a provincial key cultural relic protection unit and a provincial patriotic education base. The first floor of the side hall was where He Xiangning lived in the early years. Influenced by Liao Zhongkai, He Xiangning joined the China Alliance in 1905 and began to join the revolution. In August 1944, He Xiangning evacuated with the underground party from Guilin to Huangyao along the Li River and Gui River, and continued to carry out anti-Japanese activities behind enemy lines.

The exhibition hall on the first floor also records the deeds of the American Flying Tigers. An incomplete tombstone is also engraved in English, which records the deeds of the 14th Aviation Group of the Flying Tigers led by the American General Chennault during World War II. A bomber flew to the occupied areas of Guangzhou to perform a mission. After completing the mission, it was on its way back to Guilin Airport at the old site of the Guangxi Provincial Working Committee. Unfortunately, it was hit by a Japanese plane and crashed over the ancient town of Huangyao. There were 7 people on board who parachuted and the remaining 3 people. He died with the plane due to serious injuries. After hearing the news, the local people rushed to rescue the seven American parachuting soldiers and sent them to Zhaoping County for proper resettlement. They also buried the three martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Chinese people's anti-Japanese cause in Huangyao in coffins according to local customs, and engraved this A tombstone. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the U.S. government sent people to Huangyao to transport the bones of the martyrs back to the United States, leaving only this tombstone as a historical witness of Sino-U.S. friendship.

Ancient Stage

The ancient stage was built in the third year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty, that is, the Huangyao Ancient Stage in 1524. It was rebuilt many times during the Qianlong and Guangxu years of the Qing Dynasty, and was rebuilt again by the Zhaoping County People's Government in 1983. During every festival, local folk artists will perform on stage to add to the fun, a custom that continues to this day. It is listed as a key cultural relic protection unit at the provincial level in Guangxi. The stage area is about 52_, and the floor area is about 94_. It is a pavilion-style stage. It has a single-eaves mountain wood, stone, and brick structure. The entire stage has a "convex" shape in plane. It is an eight-column stage with a backstage and a side stage. , a pavilion-style stage with side rails.

The Huangyao ancient stage has distinctive characteristics of Guangxi’s rural ancient stage culture. First, it uses a palace-style architectural shape with a Chinese classical large roof. It is a typical Xieshan style large roof. Instead of using the green glazed tiles on the top of the hill in Wangfuzhong, small green tiles are used, which shows that the stage is a folk stage; secondly, the main ridge, ridges, handles, and eaves of the stage are painted and carved like picturesque ones. It is exquisitely decorated with auspicious patterns such as two lions playing with beads and two phoenixes flying to the moon. In particular, the complex ancient stage's exquisite large-scale continuous colored sculpture ridge decoration on the main ridge is one of the signs that the ancient buildings in Lingnan are different from those in the north; third, the stage decoration is famous The couplets on the plaques of the scholars make the whole stage antique, exude the atmosphere of calligraphy and calligraphy, and add to the cultural taste of the building. The three words "Ke Xing" on the plaque in the middle were written by Lin Zuoji, a member of the Huang Yao family. The couplet on the outside is "When you hear his voice and music, you will be born. You might as well use your ears to see how thin the person is. You must continue to think about it."

"It is recommended that people should not only listen to the play carefully with all their ears, but also carefully think about the cause and effect of the characters and plots in the play, and gain lessons from it; fourthly, there were four large water tanks at the four corners of the stage. When singing on the stage, the audience echoed *** The sound can be heard for thousands of miles, which fully demonstrates the intelligence and talent of Lingnan folk craftsmen and artists - the information comes from the small town micro-newsletter
