Zhengding City Wall in Ming and Qing Dynasties

Zhengding City Wall is located in Hebei Province. Founded in the Northern Zhou Dynasty, it was originally made of stone. In the first year of Tang Baoying (762), the Hutuo River flooded and the city was built every day. In the 14th year of Ming Dynasty (1449), it was expanded into a tucheng with a circumference of 24 li, a height of 30 feet and a width of 20 feet. In the fifth year of Qin Long (157 1), Gu Shou, the magistrate of Calm County, changed Tucheng into a brick city. After that, the magistrate Zhou applied to the state treasury for more than 60,000 taels of silver, requisitioned civilian workers from counties under the jurisdiction of Calm State, and started construction by stages. Completed in Wanli four years (1576).

Xu Ying in the east, Changle in the south, Zhenyuan in the west and Yong 'an in the north. The four gates are accompanied by Moon City and Wengcheng. The reconstruction or reconstruction of later generations is also carried out on this basis. It has played an important role in flood control and military defense. It is the crystallization of the wisdom and perseverance of the ancient Han working people. Due to historical reasons and the development of urban construction in recent years, Zhengding City is mostly a earthen city except the existing gates. The East Gate has been buried under national defense fortifications, with Li Men and Wengcheng Gates in the south gate, Li Men and Wengcheng Gates in the west gate and Li Men and Yuecheng Gates in the north gate.

Zhengding City Wall was announced by Hebei Provincial People's Government as a key cultural relic protection unit on July 5th, 1993.
