Zeng Guofan's tomb was blasted. Why did archaeologists hurriedly quit after reading the tomb?
Zeng Guofan was an official in the late Qing Dynasty. He was a politician and writer. He participated in the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement and made great contributions in military and political affairs. Moreover, his Letter from Zeng Guofan has been handed down and used for reference later. Later, after archaeologists blasted the tomb, experts only took one look and asked them to seal the cave. Why? Let's take a look.
after his death, Zeng Guofan was buried in Houfulong Mountain, Tongxi Temple, Changsha, Hunan Province. This is the place he chose before his death. This place can be said to be a treasure trove of geomantic omen. Zeng Guofan himself believes in geomantic omen. His tomb is relatively simple, mainly made of granite, except that there is a white jade stone tablet on the back of the tomb, on which 22 Chinese characters are written: Zeng Wenzheng, a great doctor of the Qing Dynasty, is a product of Mrs. Hou Ouyang.
According to legend, in the eleventh year of Tongzhi, one day Zeng Guofan was walking outside, and suddenly felt his feet uncomfortable and a little numb. When he got home, he couldn't speak, and his illness became more and more serious. He died soon, and later people buried him with Mrs. Ouyang. Because of Zeng Guofan's special status, his family once entrusted a villager to guard Zeng Guofan's tomb, and bought him a piece of land near the cemetery so that he could farm for a living. Zeng Guofan's cemetery is not accessible to anyone. Those who graze, beggars and have five senses are not allowed to enter, but I don't know when the grave keeper disappeared.
Zeng Guofan's tomb was destroyed in 195s, and it was taken a fancy to by grave robbers in 198. At that time, villagers said that this tomb often made a loud noise, so archaeologists came to find out. When archaeologists arrived, they found a hole, but the hole was so small that only skinny people could enter. When archaeologists entered, people waiting outside found that the rope tied to them had not moved, thinking it was.
Zeng Guofan's tomb was damaged, but not much was damaged, just an extra hole. In order to prevent the grave robbers from coming again, it was decided to close the tomb permanently.
