When is it better to graft citrus? How to manage after grafting?
In citrus production, most citrus farmers choose to graft from late March to mid-April in spring; In autumn, choose early August to September 1 grafting. Pay attention to the weather forecast in time after determining the grafting date, and try to avoid grafting before and after stormy weather.
How to manage citrus after grafting In the process of citrus cultivation, grafting is only the preliminary work, and the management after grafting is the key. In order to improve the grafting survival rate after grafting, it can only be achieved through management. According to many years' experience in citrus cultivation, the survival rate can be improved to over 90% by adopting the following methods to manage citrus after grafting. The method is as follows:
Check survival rate. After grafting in spring 15~20 days, or after grafting in autumn 10 days, citrus began to check its survival rate. If the grafted buds are found to turn yellow or brown, they should be replenished in time, or wait until spring is warm.
Uncover and cut the anvil. After citrus grafting, the binding film needs to be removed after the base of the scion is lignified. If the bud is not exposed, cut the film to expose the bud when checking the survival rate. In the case of bud grafting seedlings, the rootstock should be cut off at the upper end of the interface 0.3 cm 15 days before the scion bud germination; Ear buds grafted in frost areas after September need not be pruned in that year to prevent the grafted buds from freezing after germination.
Erase the new shoots. After citrus grafting, the buds on the rootstock should be wiped off in time to ensure sufficient nutrients in the scion branches. After the scion sprouts, when it grows to 2 ~ 3 buds, only one robust and upright bud is kept, and the weak buds and crooked buds are removed to promote the lignification of the robust buds as soon as possible.
Plastic surgery. At present, citrus production advocates big seedlings to build gardens. Therefore, it is necessary to cut off the grafted seedlings before and after beginning of autumn. In places where the cold dew wind comes early or is prone to drought, or when you leave the garden in late autumn and early winter, you can enrich the autumn shoots in advance and cut the tops at the full buds in the middle and upper parts of the selected spring shoots or summer shoots.
