Some cars are heated by PTC. How does it work?

The full name of PTC is "positive temperature coefficient", which translates to the meaning of automobile heater. In the traditional internal combustion engine, the cooling liquid is generally introduced into the car as a heat source for heat exchange, and the heated air is sent into the carriage by a blower.

Due to the aggravation of environmental and energy use problems, new energy pure trams have gradually become a substitute for traditional internal combustion engines, while pure trams use PTC heating methods more.

In new energy vehicles, because the motor and battery have replaced the internal combustion engine, a new heating method is adopted, that is, PTC heating replaces the original warm air water core with PTC device. Its working principle is relatively simple, that is, the current generates heat through the resistor (the thermal effect of the current) to achieve the purpose of heating. Its resistance is usually made of semiconductor material. The greater the resistance, the greater the power, and the more heat generated per unit time, which has the characteristics of energy saving, constant temperature and safety.

PTC heating element is a heating element designed by using the constant temperature heating characteristics of PTC thermistor. In the occasion of medium and small power heating, PTC heating elements have incomparable advantages over traditional heating elements, such as constant temperature heating, no open flame, high heat conversion rate, little influence by power supply voltage and long natural life. The greater the indoor temperature difference, the greater the PTC output power and the faster the heating. As the temperature difference becomes smaller, the heating process tends to be slow.

PTC heating has the advantages of small thermal resistance, fast heating, wide working voltage, self-limiting power, long service life and high product maturity.

The disadvantages of PTC heating are fast power consumption and short cruising range.
