Pharmacological effects of Ilex cornuta

① Ilex cornuta injection (aqueous solution treated with ethanol and sodium bisulfite) can increase coronary flow and enhance myocardial contractility after perfusing the hearts of displaced guinea pigs.

② Contraceptive effect

Water extract and alcohol extract of Ilex cornuta or other related preparations can reduce pregnancy in mice, and the pregnancy inhibition rate is 80 ~ 100%. Vaginal smear method proves that Ilex cornuta can change the normal sexual cycle of mice, mainly by prolonging the dormancy period, and secondly by exceeding or shortening the estrus period. The alcohol extract of Ilex cornuta leaves (green powder, with glycoside reaction) has contraceptive effect. No pathological changes of uterus and ovary were found in tissue sections, so it was considered as physiological contraception.

Sexual taste 1 Materia Medica: bitter, cool and nontoxic.

Meridian tropism: entering the meridian of foot jueyin and shaoyin.

Functions mainly include nourishing liver and kidney, nourishing qi and blood, expelling wind and removing dampness. Treat cough due to lung fatigue, blood loss due to fatigue, soreness of waist and knees, rheumatalgia, and traumatic injury.
