What types of betta fish are there?
Betta fish mainly refers to some fish of the Perchidae family, and there are two common categories.
Thai betta fish of the genus betta. They are divided into horsetail (the most common on the market), fantail, half-moon, general, lion king, fighting fish, etc. In fact, they are all the same kind of fish, with different body colors and sizes.
Macropodus’ Chinese fighting fish. There are four types: Fork-tail Betta, Round-tail Betta, Hong Kong Black Fork-tail Betta and Vietnamese Black Fork-tail Betta. In the ornamental fish industry, they are collectively called Chinese Betta. They are four species and have different phenotypes from the giant betta.
There are also other climbing perch fish that are habitually classified as betta fish (an ornamental fish, not an academic fish) due to their habits, such as the Amsochi betta fish of the genus Microctenopoma.
