Historical evolution of Changwu Town

"Changwu" got its name from the order of desolation in the late Qing Dynasty. In 1901 (the twenty-seventh year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty), when Zhou Mian, the general manager of the Railway Negotiation Bureau of Heilongjiang Province, came here to release wasteland, he divided the area from south to north and divided the wells from east to west. The area was arranged as "Changzi Wujing". Due to the clearing of wells and land reclamation, the population increased sharply. In order to facilitate administrative management, Zhou Mian chose "Changzi Wujing" to build the city and named it "Changwucheng". In 1908 (the 34th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty), the Zhaozhou Department established the Zhaodong Branch Defense Experience here. After the founding of the Republic of China, in November 1912, the Zhaodong Administrative Bureau was established and stationed in five cities in Changchun. On July 1, 1914, the administrative bureau of Zhaodong was changed to Zhaodong County, and Changwucheng became the county seat. It has begun to take shape as a town, covering an area of 3.3 square kilometers. It is surrounded by earthen walls and has four gates. There are three streets in the east, west, north and south of the city. After the fall of Northeast China, in December 1937, the pseudo-county office moved from Changwucheng to Mangou Station (today's Zhaodong Town) and was changed to Changwu Street under the county jurisdiction. After the victory of the "93" Anti-Japanese War in 1945, the fifth district was established, and in the spring of 1948 it was changed to Changwucheng District. In September 1951, Changwu Town was established and belonged to the Fifth District. In March 1956, it was transferred to the direct jurisdiction of the county. In September 1958, Beiguan and Jufa townships were merged into Changwu Town and changed into Changwu People's Commune. In March 1984, it was changed to Changwu Town. Changwu Town has been established for a long time. It was once the old county seat and a traffic artery of the Harbin-Dalian and Sanzhao Highways. It is a regional central town and transportation hub in the eastern and western parts of Zhaozhou and has a relatively developed economy.
