Obviously "Chang 'an" is so beautiful, who changed it to "Xi 'an"? Why change it?

Gradually, I began to dream about Chang 'an in the story every night. There are 300 songs and poems in Chang 'an, which are full of joys and sorrows. Whenever Chang 'an is mentioned, people will always think of the scene of the prosperous Tang Dynasty hundreds of years ago, and also think of Chang 'an's famous poets. However, Chang 'an has now been renamed Xi 'an, and whenever I talk about a city that regrets changing its name, I probably have to mention Xi 'an. The name Chang 'an seems to be inherently poetic. When you hear this name, you will think of its past story. Why did the beautiful name Chang 'an change to Xi 'an?

Chang 'an is the first capital named after Beijing in history. It wasn't called Chang 'an at first. In the Western Zhou Dynasty, Chang 'an was called Gao Feng. Zhou Wenwang and Zhou Wuwang built Fengjing and Haojing respectively, which are collectively called Fengjing. The area where Gao Feng lived was called Zhou Zong, but in the Qin Dynasty. Chang 'an is still prosperous, and the famous Xianyang is also a part of Xi and Xianyang today.

Xianyang city in that period was very large, including the vast areas on both sides of the Weihe River. The world-famous Epang Palace is also here, but it is not finished. Chang 'an was only a small place at the end of Qin Dynasty. Qin Shihuang had a brother named Chang 'an An Jun, and his fief was called Chang 'an. After Liu Bang ascended the throne, he began to build the capital Chang 'an, and Gao Han set up a city in Chang 'an County in the fifth year (the first 202 years).

After the establishment of Chang 'an County, Liu Bang also built a palace, named Changle Palace, and a Weiyang Palace was built a few years later. It was also in 200 BC that Liu Bang moved the capital here. Because it is located in Chang 'an Township, it is named Chang 'an City. Chang 'an in the Western Han Dynasty was also extremely prosperous, and the Silk Road began here. In its heyday, the city had 88,000 families with a population of 246,000.

But this Chang 'an is not Chang 'an in the present sense. Later, Wang Mang came to power, and Chang 'an was affected by the war. Emperor Guangwu of the Eastern Han Dynasty was re-established, and Chang 'an was renamed Xijing. Now people say that Chang 'an should be counted from the Sui Dynasty. After Emperor Wendi established the Sui Dynasty, Chang 'an was its capital. Chang 'an at that time was very shabby and narrow after years of war. Emperor Wendi wanted to rebuild a capital city.

In 582 AD (the second year of Huang Kai), Emperor Wendi of Sui Dynasty chose a good place in the southeast of Chang 'an. It took 84 square kilometers to build a new capital in this place, named Daxing City. This is actually the Chang 'an City in the later Tang Dynasty, and its scale is extremely grand. After Li Yuan proclaimed himself emperor, he changed Daxing to Chang 'an. The implication, as before, is long-term stability. Emperor Taizong and Emperor Xuanzong built palaces such as Daming Palace here. The area of Chang 'an City is 9.7 times that of Xi 'an City Wall today. Since then, Chang 'an City has not changed its name for many years.

Until the founding of Ming Dynasty, in the second year of Hongwu (1369), Zhu Yuanzhang changed Fengyuan Road to Xi 'an House. Xi 'an City Wall was built on the basis of Chang 'an City in Tang Dynasty, which still exists today. Renaming doesn't mean that Zhu Yuanzhang doesn't value it here. On the contrary, he does. I also want to move my capital to Xi 'an many times, and Zhu Biao has been to Xi 'an several times. It's a pity that Zhu Biao died after a house call. Zhu Yuanzhang was immersed in the blow of losing his prince and never thought about moving the capital again.
