1, reading can't just look at the first and last sentences of a paragraph.
It takes 3 minutes to read the reading content, but the length of the reading content is not short. In this case, many students will feel certain time pressure, so they will subconsciously use the technique of fast reading, which is the familiar practice of only looking at the sentences at the beginning and end of the paragraph. For IELTS reading articles, this practice can really help candidates improve the speed of reading and understanding articles. But the reading of comprehensive writing is not like this.
What you need to understand is that there is a strong correspondence between the reading content of IELTS comprehensive writing and the listening content afterwards. In other words, every argument in reading an article will be refuted one by one in listening, and what is refuted is the logical loophole of these arguments in the process of concrete argumentation and analysis. The contents of these specific discussions generally do not appear in the first and last sentences of each paragraph, but are all carried out in the middle of the paragraph. If you just stare at the first two sentences of each paragraph, you can read the full text quickly, but because you don't understand the discussion process, it will bring great inconvenience to record refutation points in listening and explain contradictions in writing, which will save you a moment's effort but bring endless trouble. This is really unwise.
The correct way is to improve the overall reading speed as much as possible, ensure that the whole reading part can be read within 3 minutes, and record the details and key points in your notes to provide reference information for later listening and writing. But don't take it for granted that all reading parts of comprehensive writing must have such a structure.
According to the different changes of discussion topics, this structure of 1+3 may also be the expansion of 1 topic +3 different theories, or the form of 1 topic +3 problems and shortcomings. However, due to the lack of sufficient knowledge and understanding of these relatively rare structures, candidates may have problems in recording information and writing when they suddenly encounter this variant 1+3. If they still follow the original practice of writing, there will be some problems in writing logic and wording.
