The National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest, is located in the south of the central area of Beijing Olympic Park and is the main stadium of the 29th Olympic Games in 2008. The stadium covers a total area of 2 1 hectare and has 9 1 000 seats. Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, track and field competitions and football finals were successfully held. After the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the National Stadium has become a professional place for Beijing citizens to participate in sports and a landmark building in Beijing and China.
The Bird's Nest (National Stadium), the main stadium of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, was designed by 200 1 Plic Prize winners Herzog, Demeron and architect Li Xinggang from China. The shape of the giant stadium is like a "bird's nest" that breeds life, more like a cradle, bearing the hope of mankind for the future. The designer did not do any unnecessary treatment to the National Stadium, but frankly exposed the structure, thus naturally forming the appearance of the building. The National Stadium started construction on February 24, 2003, and was temporarily suspended due to design adjustment on July 30, 2004. Work resumed on February 27, 2003, and it is expected to be completed in March 2008. The total project cost is 2.267 billion yuan. The external structure of the "Bird's Nest" is mainly composed of a huge portal steel frame and 24 truss columns. The top of the National Stadium is saddle-shaped, with a major axis of 332.3 meters and a minor axis of 296.4 meters. The height of the highest point is 68.5 meters and the height of the lowest point is 42.8 meters. ..
