Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou
March 2022 14
Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou Lingyin Temple was built in the first year of Xianhe in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (AD 326). About 1700 years ago, it is the earliest famous temple in Hangzhou. Lingyin Temple is located in the west of West Lake in Hangzhou, with its back to the North Peak and facing Feilai Peak. Surrounded by two peaks, the mountains are shaded by trees and there are many ancient temples.
The founder of Lingyin Temple is West Indian monk Huili. At the beginning of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, cranes swam from the Central Plains to Zhejiang and Wulin (now Hangzhou). When he saw a mountain peak, he sighed: "This is a small ridge in jiusan, Zhuguoling, Zhongtian. I don't know when it came. When the Buddha was alive, he was mostly hidden by immortals. " Then a temple called Lingyin was built in front of the peak.
When Lingyin Temple was founded, Buddhism was not prosperous, and everything was just in its infancy. In the Southern Dynasties, Liang Wudi granted land expansion, with a slightly considerable scale. In the sixth year of the Tang Dynasty (AD 77 1 year), it was completely restored and the incense was strong. However, by the end of the Tang Dynasty, "it was difficult to reconcile with the law", Lingyin suffered from the disaster of fish in the pool, the temple was destroyed and the monks were scattered. It was not until Qian _, the king of the Five Dynasties, that Master Yongming was ordered to renew his life and build a stone building, a Buddhist temple, a Buddhist temple and a 100-foot Maitreya Pavilion, and named it Lingyin New Temple. At the peak of Lingyin Temple, there were nine floors, eighteen pavilions, seventy-two halls, 1,300 temples and as many as 3,000 monks. Hangzhou was the capital of the Southern Song Dynasty. Gaozong and Xiaozong were always lucky to drive Lingyin, manage temple affairs and write calligraphy. During the Jiading period in Song Ningzong, Lingyin Temple was known as one of the "Five Mountains" in the south of Zen.
During the reign of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty, the Zen master had an abbot, who was determined to rebuild and raise funds extensively. It took 18 years to build a temple alone. Brahma is solemn, the ancient style is revived, and its scale is grand, making it the "crown of southeast". In the 28th year of Emperor Kangxi in Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1689), Emperor Kangxi gave him a name when he visited the south.
Yunlin temple.
After the founding of New China, Lingyin has been extensively repaired many times. Nowadays, under the government's policy of freedom of religious belief, and under the leadership of the abbot, Master Guang Quan, the second-order people of Lingyin Temple take "fully carrying forward the fine Buddhist tradition and actively building a pure land on earth in Southeast Asia" as their development goal, making Lingyin, a thousand-year-old temple, Gaofa Building and Heping Sea, present a thriving scene.
