Deng Shichang was one of the earliest naval officers in China, and the captain of beiyang fleet Zhiyuan Ship in Qing Dynasty. He has a strong patriotism and often says to soldiers, "Who died? After the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895, due to the limited financial and material resources at that time, the tombs built by the people of Dalu Island for Deng Shichang and the unknown martyrs were very simple. 1988, donggang city people's government moved this tomb to the north slope of Nanshan in Dongkou. The people of Dalu Island made a new coffin for Zhiyuan's body. They chose the best wood and invited the best carpenter on the island to nail it. A monument was erected in front of the grave. The front of the tombstone is engraved with "Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Wu Jia", and there is an inscription on the back of the tombstone.

Japanese entrepreneur Yukio Inoue made a special trip to Kashima and laid a wreath at the statue of Deng Shichang and the tomb of the "Heroes of the Sino-Japanese War". It is said that his grandfather participated in the Sino-Japanese naval battle as the first mate on a Japanese ship. He obeyed his grandfather's wishes and paid homage to the warriors in the Sino-Japanese War with a sense of guilt.
