Can I cut grapes in the Mid-Autumn Festival in August?

Grapes are best picked from February to March in the lunar calendar. Grape cutting propagation is mostly carried out in spring. It is generally difficult to propagate grapes by cutting at high temperature in summer and autumn.

Grape cutting method:

I. Selection of Branches Select the newly budded grape branches, cut off the leaves, and cut off the cuttings according to the requirement that the length is about 15cm and at least contains 1 newly sprouted grape branches.

Second, the cutting method uses clean river sand as the seedbed. Insert the cut grape branches into the sand bed at an angle of about 45 degrees between the branches and the sand bed surface, and ensure that 1 new buds are shallowly buried about 1 cm below the sand bed surface, and no new buds are exposed from the sand bed surface. After cutting, keep the sand bed moist and avoid direct sunlight.

Third, the change of cutting branches About 10 days after cutting, the budding buds emerged from the sand bed and turned green. About 20 days after cutting, adventitious roots grow on the nodes where the growing buds are located. About 35 days after cutting, 2-3 leaves of the growing buds have spread out, and a large number of young roots have grown on their nodes, and the cutting is successful.

The survival rate of cutting by this method can generally reach about 80%. The key of this method is to bury the budding buds in wet fine sand. Because, if the budding bud is exposed on the sand bed, the bud will germinate and grow too fast, but it can't be induced to take root in time, and eventually it will lose water and wither; If buried too deep, the bud can germinate, grow and take root, but it is difficult for the bud to break through the sand bed and eventually cannot survive. Only when the newly germinated buds are shallowly buried about 1cm below the wet sand surface, the buds will slowly emerge from the sand surface, and new roots will be induced in time, so that the absorption and loss of water can reach a balanced state, and finally the plants can survive.
