Is there a chain of contempt among 211 colleges and universities?
For me, who studied in 211 for both my undergraduate and master’s degrees, I couldn’t help but answer this question. Because 211 and 985 have such famous names, everyone likes to ask: Is that school 211/985? Candidates for the college entrance examination are also proud to pass 211 or even 985.
But there is no doubt that the long tradition of "literati despising each other" also exists in the comparison between colleges and universities. Everyone is 211, who is better than whom? That creates comparisons, and with comparisons comes chains of contempt. These chains of contempt can be carried out from two perspectives: time and space. First, let’s look at the time perspective: The approval of my country’s 211 colleges and universities has gone through 5 time stages. In each stage, a group of colleges and universities have become 211, and they have become 211 early schools. It seems logical to despise the schools that obtained this status later. Who is it? They are older than you. For example, the first batch of colleges and universities to become 211, such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Nanjing University, Tongji University, etc. later became 985, so it is natural for them to despise the general 211. The chain of contempt from a time perspective is not yet obvious, but the most obvious one is from a spatial perspective, that is, a regional perspective.
The picture below is the distribution map of my country’s 211 universities. The yellow columns represent the distribution of 211 universities. It can be seen that Beijing, Shanghai, and Jiangsu have the most 211 universities, while there are relatively few in other places. Combined with the regional economic development situation , the following chain of contempt is formed: North, Shanghai and Guangzhou 211gt; other eastern regions 211gt; central region 211gt; northeastern region 211gt; southwest region 211gt; northwest region 211. This geographical distribution can actually be said to be widespread.
In addition to these two major perspectives, there are also discriminations based on majors. For example, among financial colleges and universities, Central Finance and Economics is very powerful, so he even dares to despise the financial majors of some other 985 universities, because After all, it is still strong.
However, the contempt is not over yet, because now there is a double first-class, and the 211 that has become a first-class company has begun to despise the 211 that has not become a double first-class.
Although the "chain of contempt" between 211 universities exists, as a student of 211 universities, you should try your best to avoid comparing the advantages and disadvantages of various schools. Don't think that a 211 university that is better than yourself is unattainable. Don't feel that those who are worse than yourself are worthless. There are also bad students in good schools, and there are also good students in not-so-great schools. What we have to do is to make ourselves good students no matter which school we go to!
