The following are common card guessing techniques:
The first step: first shuffle the cards and show them to the audience so that they know that this is just an ordinary playing card.
Step 2: Next, divide the cards into two piles, one for the audience and the other for the performers. Then ask the audience if they saw a particular card, such as eight clubs. If the audience says yes, then the performer can say, "OK, I'll find this card for you."
Step 3: The performer will pick up the pile of cards facing him, show each card to the audience and ask them if they have seen the card they just saw. The audience may say no.
Step 4: Then the performer will pick up the pile of cards facing the audience and open them one by one until he turns to that particular card (in this case, it's Club 8). Then he will show this card to the audience.
The key to this skill is that the performer needs to remember the cards he just turned over. When he turned to eight clubs, he knew it was the card he needed, because he had memorized the position of the card.
Of course, this is just a skill, not real magic. Most of the magic and predictions are based on skills and prepared plots, which surprises and excites the audience.
