Why is National Highway 109 called the road to death?

National Highway 109 is called the road of death because of its high altitude, bad weather, frequent road surface undulation and inclination.

National Highway 109 is located in Xizang Autonomous Region, China, and it passes through Hoh Xil Nature Reserve, which has certain risks. Hoh Xil is one of the nature reserves with the highest altitude and the most fragile ecological environment in the world, with complex geographical conditions, harsh climate, lack of infrastructure and rescue resources and difficult road conditions.

On this national highway, you may encounter the risk of natural disasters such as plateau hypoxia, extremely cold weather, mudslides and earthquakes. At the same time, the road conditions are poor, there are problems such as rugged, steep slopes and many bends, and the driving risk is great. Therefore, for ordinary vehicles and inexperienced drivers, the Hoh Xil 109 National Highway is dangerous.
