The famous sword made by the blacksmith Guozuna after three years of fasting. According to legend, Hojo Tokimasa, the first leader of the Kamakura shogunate, cut off the head of a ghost with this sword in a dream and named it "Onimaru", which became a heirloom of the Hojo family. After the demise of the Hojo family, it was owned by Nitta Yosada, the Ashikaga Shogun family, Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and other people in power at the time. It was regarded by them as a famous sword in the world. It was collected by the Emperor during the Meiji period and has been passed down to this day.
Onimaru is a family heirloom of the Hojo clan who ruled the Kamakura shogunate. Later, the Kamakura shogunate fell, and the Hojo family and the shogunate perished together. The sword fell into the hands of Nitta Yosada; it was soon acquired by the Ashikaga family who established the Muromachi shogunate, and became a family heirloom. After the decline of the Muromachi shogunate in the late Warring States Period, the last general Ashikaga Yoshiaki gave it to Oda Nobunaga; it was later passed on by Nobunaga to Toyotomi Hideyoshi (it is also said that Yoshiaki gave it directly to Hideyoshi).
Toyotomi Hideyoshi entrusted Onimaru to Honami Mitsutori. After the Battle of Osaka, Tokugawa Ieyasu became the most powerful person in the world, and Onimaru also became the property of the Tokugawa family, but the Motoami family was still ordered to keep it. When the crown prince of Emperor Gomizuo was born, Tokugawa Hidetada presented it to the emperor as a birthday gift; however, the crown prince died soon after and the sword was considered unlucky, so it was given to the Motoami family again. After the fall of the Edo shogunate, Onimaru was presented to Emperor Meiji by descendants of the Motoami family in the 14th year of Meiji (1881). It is now kept in the Imperial Household Agency of Japan.
(His experience of being “given to Japanese artillery major Ichiro Kyuno by Emperor Showa in 1941, later became a trophy of the US military, and returned to Japan in 1970.” Since relevant information cannot be found on any foreign language website, his experience has been Confirmed to be a rumor. This rumor is suspected to have come from Natu Bar and was widely circulated on Weibo)
Legend
This is a famous sword made by a blacksmith who has been fasting for three years. According to legend, Hojo Tokimasa, the first leader of the Kamakura shogunate, was harassed by imps every night after he pacified the world. Because I couldn't sleep, I asked a mage and an onmyoji to do something, but it didn't work. Shi Zheng finally fell ill, and he was very distressed. One night Shizheng dreamed that a tachi appeared in the form of an old man, "My body is too dirty and I can't save you. Let a clean person clean my body." After saying this, he changed back to his original form. Taito shape.
Shizheng believed in this dream so much that he immediately cleaned up the sword the next day. Shizheng lit a pot of fire charcoal in the house. At this time, he found the shadow of a ghost on the brazier, which was very similar to the ghost that appeared in his dream every night... At this time, the sword guarding Shizheng poured into the brazier. Next, cut off the imp's head. After that, Shizheng's condition gradually improved and he recovered.
For this reason, Tokimasa named the sword "Onimaru" and it became an heirloom of the Hojo family. Later, the Hojo family fell, and Onimaru passed through the hands of Nitta Yosada and was passed down to the rulers of the Ashikaga, Oda, and Toyotomi families. It was collected by the Imperial family during the Meiji period and has been passed down to this day.
