Su Shi, who was born in Sichuan, died in Jiangsu and was finally buried in Henan.
Su Shi left a will before his death, hoping to be buried in Tancheng, Ruzhou, not far from Luoyang, which is now jia county, Henan Province. Therefore, when Su Shi died, his third son, Su Guo, followed his wishes and buried Su Shi in the dustpan-shaped ravine of Lianhua Mountain in Tancheng.
Su Shi
After the death of an ancient minister, there were generally two kinds of burial sites. Most people will choose to "return the fallen leaves to their roots" and send the coffin back to their hometown for burial; A few people will choose to bury the coffin where they died. It is rare for Su Shi to choose a third place for burial instead of transporting the coffin back to his hometown in Sichuan. Why did Su Shi do this?
Is it because Jiangsu is too far from Sichuan?
From Jiangsu to Sichuan, the journey is thousands of miles, whether it is crossing the Qinling Mountains into Sichuan by land or the Three Gorges by water. In the Song Dynasty, when the traffic conditions were very backward, it was very hard to travel by boat. However, the long journey is not the main reason why Su Shi was buried in Henan. At that time, after Su Shi's father Su Xun died in Kaifeng, Henan, Su Shi and Su Zhe escorted the coffin, took an official boat and returned to Sichuan by water for half a year. The solution is always more difficult than the reality. As long as Su Shi is willing, Su Guo has the ability to send him back to Sichuan for burial.
Su Xun
Is it because Su Shi himself doesn't want to go back to Sichuan?
Of course not. Su Shi was born in Meishan, Sichuan, where he spent a happy childhood. It is natural that "fallen leaves return to their roots". In fact, since the brothers Su Shi and Su Zhe escorted their father Su Xun's coffin back to Meishan, Sichuan for burial, they repeatedly said that they would follow their father and be buried in their hometown after death.
Most likely, it has something to do with a rebellion case.
1094, Zhao Nian, a native of Yuzhou, won the second place in Jinshi and later became Dr. Taichang. In those years, Su Shi and Su Zhe's brothers had a bumpy life and were relegated by the court many times, which made Zhao Nian very anxious. During the reign of Song Zhezong, when Zhao Nian returned home to visit relatives, he raised the banner of "Jun Qing side" and rebelled on the grounds that Su Shi and Su Zhe were demoted. As you think, "the scholar rebelled for ten years." Zhao Nian's actions have yielded no results. Later, Zhao Nian's brother was killed, and their parents and wives were exiled.
Undoubtedly, Su Shi and Su Zhe had nothing to do with the Zhao Nian Rebellion. However, Su Shi, who experienced Wutai poetry case and almost died, will definitely try to avoid this kind of thing. More importantly, when Su Shi died of illness in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, the Zhao Nian Rebellion had not been finally closed. Neither Su Shi nor Su Zhe dared to propose to be buried in Sichuan (Yuzhou was under the jurisdiction of Sichuan in the Song Dynasty), away from the land of right and wrong. Otherwise, their political opponents will take this opportunity to gossip and bring unexpected innocent disasters to this troubled family.
Since he can't be buried in Meishan, Sichuan, why should Su Shi be buried in Yucheng, Ruzhou now?
It has a lot to do with my brother Su Zhe.
Su Zhe
1094, Su Zhe was demoted to be the magistrate of Ruzhou because he wrote to the court against Song Zhezong's restoration of the new law of Xining, and lived and worked in Ruzhou for several months. During this period, Su Shi moved from Dingzhou to Yingzhou, and met Su Zhe after a long separation when passing through Ruzhou, and stayed for some time. Su Zhe took his younger brother to visit the scenic spots in Ruzhou.
On this day, the two brothers came to Tancheng, Ruzhou, and both boarded the famous Tiantai. In the north of the military rooftop, there is a Lotus Mountain. Su Shi saw the endless Lotus Mountain, full of green, beautiful, comparable to Emei Mountain in his hometown of Sichuan, and "thick soil and deep water" and excellent feng shui, so he came up with the idea of taking this as his destination.
Lianhuashan
When Su Shi bid farewell to Su Zhe, he wrote three poems, "It's never too late to leave." . In the second poem, Su Shi wrote: "My ancestors used to live in Los Angeles, but now they have passed the foot of Songshan Mountain. How dare Shuinan Buzhai try to buy bamboo in Yichuan? I also heard that Goushan is a good spring. It goes through the forest and flows out of Kethleen near the city. I thought that Mao Xuan shone on the water, and the two Weng were relatively bright. " Yichuan and Gushan are all near Tancheng, which shows Su Shi's affection for Tancheng.
When Su Shi died of illness in Changzhou, Jiangsu, Su Zhe was living in Yingchuan (now Yuzhou City, Henan Province). Su Shi's son lives in Xiechuan (now Xuchang City, Henan Province), and many Su Shi's children are scattered in Tancheng area. Yingchuan and Xiechuan are not far from Tancheng, and Su Shi was buried in Tancheng to facilitate future generations to sweep the grave.
Interestingly, when Su Shi was buried in Tancheng,11kloc-0/210.25, and after Su Zhe's death, he was also buried next to Su Shi's tomb in Tancheng.
More interestingly, although Su Xun had already been buried in Meishan, Sichuan, in the winter of 1350, Yin of Tancheng County built the Su Xun cenotaph beside the tombs of Su Shi and Su Zhe, which brought the father and son together under the small Emei Mountain, thus achieving the "Three Su Graves". At present, Jia County has built a national 4A-level tourist scenic spot and a national key cultural relics protection unit Susan Garden scenic spot with the "Susan Tomb" as the main body.

In any case, Su Shi and Su Zhe, two masters of literature and art, were buried in Tancheng, adding a bit of humanistic color to this thick soil.
