What is the history of Jiaxiu Tower in Guiyang?
Jiaxiu Tower was built in the 26th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty, that is, 1598, and has a history of more than 400 years. During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1573-1620), the governor of Jiangdong built a dike here to connect the south bank. The first floor was built to cultivate Feng Shui and was named "Jiaxiu", which means "Ke Jia is tall and beautiful".
It was burned down in the first year of Tianqi (1621), and was rebuilt by Governor Zhu Xieyuan and renamed "Laifeng Pavilion".
It was rebuilt many times in the Qing Dynasty. In the 28th year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1689), the governor Tian Wen rebuilt it and restored its original name.
Since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Jiaxiu Tower has been a gathering place for literati and poets, and there have been many poems written by distinguished people.
Among the collections of ancient authentic stone carvings, wooden dishes, and calligraphy and painting works by famous artists in the building, the 206-word long couplet written by Liu Yushan, a Hanlin scholar in Guiyang during the Qing Dynasty, is one of the best, surpassing Sun Yanxi of Kunming, who is known as the best long couplet in the world. There are 26 more characters in the long couplet of Daguan Tower.
