An essay on giving a good name to a big tree, 550 words
When I was a child, I saw many, many trees. I gave them a different name, called tree. When I grew up, my parents told me that some trees are called poplar trees and some are called willow trees. From then on, I learned that trees are different from each other, with different names and different characters.
When I was teaching Zhuangzi to my students a few years ago, in order to explain that "all things are one", I came up with many ideas to prove that there is no difference between thing A and thing B. I designed a trap:
Are we humans and pigs the same or different? Students say otherwise.
But in terms of biological classification, can humans and pigs be classified into the same category? The students said they are all mammals.
Do humans and pigs have the same characteristics at this level? The student agrees.
Are humans and birds the same or different? Are humans and birds the same under the concept of animal?
Are humans and germs the same or different? The students have figured out my thinking and naturally answered "It is the same at the biological level."
Are humans and sand the same or different? The students can't find any similarities.
Are they the same at the "object" level? "Things" are "things". Who can say that he is not a thing? The students could only nod in approval.
So, if we put everything in the world under the supreme "Tao" mentioned by Zhuangzi, what else is not the same? According to this idea, it is not difficult to understand the "Equality of Things Theory", because all speeches and opinions are nothing more than analysis and elaboration of the world. Regardless of whether it accurately reflects the essence of the world, it always has its own specific logic. Therefore, It is the elucidation of "Tao", so their starting point and destination are the same.
I am very surprised, why did you go to all the trouble to prove that everything is the same? Is it just because of teaching needs? My parents also worked hard to help me learn to distinguish different types of trees, and my teachers worked hard to help me understand the characteristics of different things. But should I use the knowledge they taught me to prove that their classifications are meaningless? If you think about it carefully, if you deliberately blur the boundaries of things, it must be that boundary that hinders you. At that time, I was probably too lonely, and I wished that neither I nor others should differentiate between locals and outsiders, and who were the trusted ones and who were the fringes, so I came to a world where everything is one - forget it, everyone is just a wage earner. ! Why does Zhuangzi blur the boundaries between things? Maybe the old man really looked at things from a philosophical perspective. Maybe he felt helpless and lonely towards the society at that time - garden officials and scholar-bureaucrats were not all little reptiles created by God! The old fisherman and the fish being caught are all consuming their lives because of greed! No one can talk to him, so he longs to immerse himself in the universe so he can chat with everything. Zhuangzi is lonely. He said that all things are one, but he does not seem to love everything in his life from his heart. He only has deep sympathy and compassion for all living beings. I seemed to have this idea at the beginning, so I often recited Lu Xun's words, "Those who want to be stable slaves" and "Those who desire to be stable slaves but cannot"...
Now I don't want to generalize about trees anymore The ground is called a tree or a plant, and the trees do not feel happy because of sympathy or leaning in. They still have to face the cold wind or the scorching sun, and they still have to sprout in the spring breeze and wither in the autumn wind. They can Do you turn your back to the spring breeze and say, "I'm taking a break this year", or blush and say to the autumn wind, "Why do you come and I leave right now?" Trees have their helplessness, and people have their joys and sorrows. No one can replace the other. Then, I want to give every tree I see a name that belongs only to it, so that I will not confuse it with other trees, and can clearly remember the personality of each tree in my heart. Only when I am lonely, sad, calm, and happy can I accurately call a certain tree and ask it to share or share, just like I once called my friends.
My parents taught me to recognize different types of trees. After many people named the trees, people have given trees different connotations: which tree can beat a table, which tree can build a house, which tree is suitable Making boats, which trees are suitable for carving into statues, which trees can only be used for herding sheep, which trees can only be used for burning fires... I don’t think I will remember trees like this, I will not own or examine them as property; I just want to be as curious, grateful and in awe as I was when I saw the "Mama Tree" at the entrance of the village when I was a child. In this way, I will have many souls with whom I can talk, and I will become rich because of it.
Not just trees, there should also be grass, ants, mountains and rivers, or something else. The world is really much richer than people. We can only understand all things bit by bit and find the meaning of life from all things.
