What is the origin of Renmin South Road in Chengdu?

Renmin South Road was originally called Taiping Road. Some people thought it was to commemorate the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom. Yide Road is the south city wall of Guangzhou in the Qing Dynasty, Taiping Road is the west city wall, and there is a Taiping Gate at Zhuangyuanfang. In the past, there were frequent fires in Xiguan. Due to the dense population, when a fire broke out, it would often set fire to the whole camp, resulting in heavy losses of human life and property. Neighbors firmly believe in the theory of Feng Shui and believe that there is a copper-making street to the east of Xiguan. Most of the shops are engaged in copper-making. It is a violation of Mars and the street name should be changed. After several discussions, it was finally renamed Taiping Street. However, this name is not accepted by people. There are many ginseng shops, banks, silk shops and other businesses on the street. When wire transfers and trusts are settled, it is still named Datong Street. Later, the west city wall was razed and the city foundation was turned into a road. The road was officially named Taiping Road, which is now Renmin South Road.

The name Renmin Road was changed during the "Cultural Revolution". It was formed by the merger of Youyi Road, Liuhuahu East Road, Huchang Road, Changgeng Road, Fengning Road and Taiping Road, running from north to south. The Renmin North (section), Middle and South Roads south of Jinghui Road are the dividing line between Yuexiu District and Liwan District, and were once one of the most prosperous areas in Guangzhou.
