Plant cultivation of Langya elm
The elm on Langya Mountain, as its name implies, is the elm on Langya Mountain, named by a professor in Nanjing. According to the survey, there are more than 300 kinds of trees in Langya Mountain in Chuzhou, among which Langya elm and Zuiweng elm are unique to Langya Mountain. People used to see this beautiful and tall tree, but they couldn't name it while admiring it. 1955, Zheng, a professor of Nanjing Forestry College (now Nanjing Forestry University) and a famous tree taxonomist in China, visited Langya Mountain. When he saw these two kinds of trees, he was surprised and happy, and said, "This has never been seen in forests and famous ancient temples in China." Zheng Lao was immediately named after the mountain and pavilion. In this way, Langya Elm and Zuiwen Elm have their own unique names.
Form broad-leaved forest with other tree species
Elm Langya has developed roots and is drought-tolerant. It can be born in places with bare rocks and thin soil layers, but it grows faster in deep and fertile soil layers and likes sunshine. It usually forms deciduous broad-leaved forest with Euphorbia humifusa, Pistacia chinensis, Cedar, Pteroceltis tatarinowii, Pu Shu and Zelkova schneideriana. Langya elm blooms in mid-March, matures in early May and falls with the wind.
