When will the grapes be pruned in Chongqing in winter?

Generally, grapes are pruned 2-3 weeks after the leaves fall naturally in winter. Grapes in Chongqing don't need to be buried in winter to keep out the cold, and most of them are picked in January. At this time, the organic nutrients in vines have been transferred to vines and roots, which can minimize the loss of nutrients during pruning in winter.

The new branches that sprout in that year are called annual branches after defoliation, and new vegetative branches (vegetative branches) or new fruiting branches with fruit ears (fruiting branches) can sprout in the second year. It can be used as an extension branch to extend the shelf surface and a mushroom mother branch to arrange the mushroom parts. According to the length of pruning in winter, it is customarily divided into: extremely short branches (including 1 bud), short branches (including 2-3 buds), middle branches (including 4-5 buds), long branches (including more than 6 buds) and extremely long branches (including 10 buds). Grape branches, especially annual branches, are solid only at the diaphragm of the node. When pruning, you should cut it off at the diaphragm, so as to protect the cut buds from the wound too close, low temperature, drought and strong wind. Specific use, should be treated differently according to the following circumstances.

(1) variety. Some varieties in Eurasian population, such as longan, Meirenzhi, Kelunsheng seedless, etc. When used as fruiting parent branch, medium and long branches should be pruned mainly, and more buds should be left in the parent branch when pruning; On the other hand, varieties with weak growth potential, such as Rose Fragrant, Victoria, Black Pi Nuo and so on. When pruning the mother branch, you can leave less 1 ~ 2 buds, mainly short and middle branches.

(2) The stout degree of branch length. The ideal result is that the thickness of the mother branch should be 0.8 ~ 1.2 cm, rather than the thicker the branch, the better! Because branches that are too thick are often vain, the development of bud eyes growing on them will be worse. For the same variety, more buds should be left when pruning thicker branches, and fewer buds should be left when pruning weaker branches.

(3) the place where branches are planted. When it is outside the shelf and there is room for development, it should be put on hold for a long time; If it is below the fruiting parent branch (branch), the double-branch regeneration must be kept short as a preparatory branch. For the fruiting mother branches on the upper part of the single hedge frame, the strongest branches should be kept short when the frame surface does not need to be expanded to avoid the rapid upward movement of the fruiting parts. On perennial lianas, the branches from the hidden buds are generally delicate, so when the resulting part is cultivated, it should be kept short (1 ~ 2 buds) to make it stronger from weak.

(4) Weather conditions in summer and autumn. Summer and autumn are important moments for further differentiation of grape flower buds. If it is rainy, the node position of flower buds will be improved. In order to ensure the yield of the next year, we should consider leaving 1 ~ 2 more buds when pruning in winter.

(5) Site conditions of vineyards. In vineyards with poor soil and poor fertilizer and water conditions, the number of fruiting mother branches and buds should be appropriately reduced when cutting in winter; On the other hand, in vineyards with strong land and comprehensive management, the mother branches can be kept for a long time, but they can't be kept for too long in Dachuan. Too much will be counterproductive.

(6) tree potential. Generally speaking, strong trees can stay longer, while weak trees should stay less and stay shorter. However, grape is a particularly sensitive tree species. For weak trees, as long as they are well managed in the future, there will be a turn for the better.
