Are Taoism and Buddhism the same thing?
Buddhism and Taoism are compatible, but they also conflict.
Taoism pursues real life, while Buddhism abandons real life. Taoism advocates taking life as reality, pursuing longevity and health, and physical immortality. Taoism believes that human life is composed of vitality, and the body is the residence of the spirit. To live forever, one must nourish both body and spirit, that is, there are efforts to "internally cultivate" and "externally nourish". Contrary to Taoism, Buddhism advocates "no birth" and believes that reality is an ocean of suffering for everything.
People are powerless against reality, so they can only endure it. To endure, you must give up all kinds of desires, place your hopes on the afterlife, and pursue transcending the "sea of suffering" of reincarnation and entering Nirvana (the world of bliss without suffering). It can be seen that Taoism advocates the pursuit of real life, while Buddhism advocates abandoning the pursuit of real material things and focusing on spiritual practice and yearning for the afterlife.
The similarities between Buddhism and Taoism
Both are religions that encourage people to do good and help the world and save people. As mentioned in "Tai Shang Inspiration Chapter": "There is no way for misfortunes and blessings, they can only be brought about by people. The rewards of good and evil follow them like a shadow." Disasters and happiness are not destined by God, but are caused by thinking, doing good and doing evil. Retribution follows people around like a shadow.
"Tai Shang Ying Pian" is a Taoist book that encourages people to do good deeds. At the same time, Buddhism also uses it as a Buddhist book to spread among the people to encourage people to accumulate virtue and do good deeds.
