What should I do if I get white spots repeatedly on my Feng Shui fish?
White spot disease is a ciliate disease caused by the invasion of the skin, gills, fins and other tissues of freshwater fish by the multi-seeded melonworm. It mainly harms juvenile fish and ornamental fish in high-density cultured fish. Symptoms include the proliferation of tissue at the parasite site, the formation of pustules, and the formation of many small white spots on the skin and fins. After the mature melon worm breaks away from the fish body, the body secretes a transparent and elastic cyst, sinks to the bottom of the water or attaches to aquatic plants and plant debris, and then begins to divide. After 9 to 10 divisions, 300 to 1,000 larvae are formed. At 15 to 20 degrees Celsius, the larvae escape from the cyst in about 24 hours, swim in the water, and invade the host. Therefore, small melon bugs reproduce and transmit their offspring in the form of cysts.
Treatment method: Increase the water temperature to about 32 degrees to encourage the small melon worms to develop and separate from the fish body. Keep changing one-fifth or one-third of the water every day. The small melon worms can be killed in about a week. and their larvae and eggs. You can add salt appropriately. Remember to continue the treatment for more than a week. You should stop the treatment every time when you feel slightly better. The eggs and larvae in the water have not been completely killed, so relapses will naturally occur.
