Why Zhuge Liang deserves to enjoy Wuwen Temple? Is it in name only, or is it deserved?
All the civil servants and military commanders in the past dynasties want to make a name for themselves in their lifetime, go down in history after their death, and complete the perfect ending of "being famous all over the world before their death". If someone is lucky enough to enter the Wu Wen Temple after death, it is enough to prove that their historical achievements in a certain aspect are extraordinary, which is also a supreme glory!
However, there are only a handful of people who can enter the Confucian Temple or the Wushu Temple in history, and they are all historical celebrities of an era. However, only two people can enter the Wu Wen Temple at the same time. One is Du Yu, a famous politician, strategist and scholar in Wei and Jin Dynasties. Another person is Zhuge Liang, known as "the embodiment of wisdom".
About Du Yu, you can refer to my other article, A Low-key Cow who entered the Wuwen Temple before Zhuge Liang. There are only two people in history. A low-key figure who entered the Wuwen Temple before Zhuge Liang! There are only two people in history.
Many people don't understand that Zhuge Liang can enter the Wuwen Temple, saying that Zhuge Liang didn't write classics and didn't make achievements in martial arts. Why does he want to enjoy the Wu Wen Temple? Let's analyze why Zhuge Liang can enjoy Wuwen Temple at the same time!
Confucius Temple, also known as Confucius Temple, Confucius Temple, Wenxuan King Temple and Supreme Temple, is a temple that respects and commemorates Confucian sages represented by Confucius. Confucius is the main sacrifice in the Confucius Temple, and there are four schools, twelve philosophers, sages and Confucians of past dynasties, and celebrities and officials from all over the country. Since the Tang Dynasty, the system of worshipping Confucius Temple has become the highest honor for scholars.
Zhuge Liang was elected to the Confucian Temple in the second year of Yongzheng. Zhuge Liang was listed in Duan Dong at the beginning, and was changed to Duan Xi after ten years of Qianlong, ranking 45th, claiming to be the first in Confucianism.
Huang Zongxi, one of the "three great thinkers in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties", strongly advocated that Zhuge Liang and Fan Zhongyan should be included in the Confucian Temple.
In ancient times, following the sage's way was "learning from the sage and teaching orthodoxy", which was a very important feature of China traditional culture. However, the orthodox church has not only established and published articles, but also made great achievements and put them into practice. The so-called meritorious service is for the three immortals. In other words, it is obvious that Zhuge Liang belongs to the latter. It can be said that Zhuge Liang is a living incarnation of Confucianism and a great man who practiced Confucianism on these two points.
Later, in the first year of Xianfeng, Xu Jishe and others wrote to praise Li Gang for entering the Confucian Temple, which is also the reason.
It can also be seen that moral articles are as important as economic achievements in the criteria for being selected into Confucius Temple.
What's more, Zhuge Liang's "Model" is "the real name of a model, and no one can compare it in a thousand years." His literary achievements have also been highly praised by literary masters of past dynasties.
The full name of Wuci is Wuci, also known as Wucheng Temple, Taigong Temple and Taigong Temple. It is a temple dedicated to and dedicated to the generals of past dynasties. The sacrificial system of the Wu Temple is based on the Confucian Temple, and the main sacrificial object is the establishment of Yasheng, Ten Philosophers and Seventy-two Children.
Zhuge Liang was selected as one of the ten philosophers at the beginning of the establishment of the Wu Temple.
Some people think that Zhuge Liang has no military exploits, and five northern expeditions almost failed. But when Zhuge Liang took over Shu, his national strength had been exhausted by the battle of Yiling. Compared with the luxurious teams behind other famous players, such as Leitian, Han Xin and Excavate, Zhuge Liang is actually in a mess, with domestic troubles and foreign invasion. There is a powerful Wei in the north and a break with Wu in the east; Huang Yuan, the satrap of Han and Jia Dynasties, rebelled, and then South China University students rioted.
After Zhuge Liang took over, the internal security rebelled, allied with the East and captured Meng Huo in the south, and vigorously carried out economic construction and army building, which made Shu's strength rise, but it was still weak compared with Wei's. Moreover, the geographical environment of Shu is unique, and it is easy to defend but difficult to attack. If you want to play, you should take the plank road. The logistics is not guaranteed and it is not suitable for enterprising. In addition, Sima Yi later adopted the defensive tactics of "shrinking and defending", which was too much for Shu. To some extent, Zhuge Liang was also dragged to death by Sima Yi. Therefore, Zhuge Liang is slightly insufficient in the meritorious military service.
But like the Confucian Temple, the Wu Temple has two selection criteria. One is fighting meritorious service, and the other is strategy and army management thought. Obviously Zhuge Liang belongs to the latter.
At the same time, this is also the standard for selecting generals in Wu Temple, and the primary standard is strategy and army management thought.
What really reflects Zhuge Liang's contribution and historical position to ancient military thought is the explanation of the origin and development of array law in the chapter "Array Law" in General Theory of the Art of War:
That is, the "Eight Arrays Method" originated from the Yellow Emperor. During the Spring and Autumn Period, Sun Wu carried it forward. During the Warring States period, it was Wu Qi who got its essence. After the Han Dynasty, Zhuge Liang took the lead. On the basis of "Eight Arrays Method", combined with Taoist thought, he created "Eight Arrays Diagram" through the interpretation of the art of war, which made the ancient Eight Arrays Method reach its peak. So when it comes to the military thought of ancient marching, Zhuge Liang is an unavoidable giant! Based on this, Zhuge Liang's election to the Wu Temple is well-deserved, and it doesn't need any meritorious military service to set off, let alone long-term strategic confrontation. It can be described as a huge system, a heroic outline and a strategic plan.
What is ten philosophers? Interpretation of Shuo Wen Jie Zi: Philosophy and knowledge. Explanation: Ye Zhi. So this is why Zhuge Liang entered the Ten Philosophers. If we only talk about the meritorious military service, the God of War such as Wang Jian, Wei Qing and Huo Qubing can be ranked ahead of Saint Sean.
Zhuge Liang can enter the Wu Wen Dian at the same time, which can be said to be deserved. Luo Guanzhong's evaluation of Jiang Wei in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms is: "Wen can write a pen to secure the world, get on the horse and make it dry." Whoever has a strategy wins, and the heroes of ancient and modern times are only kings. "Personally, this evaluation is more suitable for evaluating Zhuge Liang in The Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
