The weather temperature in Xishuangbanna in February

The annual average temperature in Xishuangbanna is about 18℃-22℃.

January is the coldest month of the year in Xishuangbanna. The average temperature is as high as 16℃, which is equivalent to the temperature in mid-spring and mid-autumn. The average temperature in July is only 25℃, which is not very hot. So it is actually a tropical climate with long summers but no winters, and autumn and spring. Since there is no winter in Xishuangbanna, it certainly doesn’t have four seasons all year round.

The alternation between rainy and dry seasons is very obvious there. First, there is a huge difference in rainfall between the wet season and the dry season. During the five months of the rainy season (June-October), the total rainfall accounts for 86% of the annual rainfall, while the average rainfall in February, the driest month in the dry season, is only 11.4mm. Secondly, the rainy season is fierce. Generally, there will be heavy rains for several consecutive days in late May every year, starting the rainy season, and it moves very quickly from south to north. Therefore, the international meteorological community generally calls it South Asia.

Because there is no winter in Xishuangbanna and crops can grow all year round, the main impact of climate on local agricultural production (mainly rice) is the rainy season and dry season, rather than temperature. For example, in the late summer of 2009, the local rainy season ended prematurely and paddy fields lacked water storage in winter, resulting in a rare drought in Yunnan in the spring of 2010 that had not been seen in 50 years.

The hottest time of the year is not midsummer, but April to May before the rainy season. When the rainy season enters, the temperature drops somewhat. 91% occurred from late March to late May, while the days with the highest temperature above 40°C only occurred in April and May. This is because clouds and rain block the sun's heat to a large extent, and the solar heat that reaches the ground is largely used for evaporation. Compared with the dry season of April and May, the temperature naturally drops.
