The Life of the Characters in Cheng Yen's Works

Master Yan Zheng was born at the end of the Japanese occupation of Taiwan Province. Since childhood, I adopted my uncle as my eldest daughter, so I called my uncle my parents and moved to Fengyuan. His stepfather (ex-uncle) runs a theater and travels to and from Taichung cities such as Fengyuan, Qingshui and Tanzi. His family is well-off. Master Yan Zheng helps and shares the housework. Master Yan Zheng's service to his stepparents was praised by the local government as the most beautiful filial piety. Later, it experienced the air strikes and bombings of the US military in World War II and witnessed the cruelty of the war.

1960, 23-year-old Wang Jinyun died of cerebral hemorrhage from her stepfather. After my grief, I began to think about the truth of life. 1960, 23-year-old Wang Jinyun went to Fengyuan Temple to worship, and the local abbot Miao Guang gave him a "quit and change". Later, because of his father's funeral, he went to Ciyun Temple to worship Confessions of Liang Huangbao and realized the impermanence of life. After that, he became a monk. After contact with Buddhism, biography aroused the interest of the mage in exploring religion. He also read the New Testament and the Old Testament and studied the four books. From the four books, the mage realized that China's traditional ethics is the law that must be followed to maintain social stability. If everyone keeps his position, society will be stable and happy. At the same time, a believer came to ask if the shabby Hokkekyo at home could be sold as waste paper. When the mage heard the name Hokkekyo, he was so happy that he spent hundreds of dollars to go home. This scripture is still in the quiet meditation room. Later, he was recommended by the local master who became a monk in Ciyun Temple, and went to Xizhi, New Taipei City to retreat and prepare to become a monk. Three days later, he was found by his mother.

Wang Jinyun left home again with the abbot of Ciyun Temple, from Taichung to Kaohsiung, and then transferred to the Empress Dowager Temple in Luye Township, Taitung County. After many twists and turns, he moved to Zhiben Qingjue Temple, Yuli yuquan temple, Hualien Dongjing Temple and Taitung Buddhist Lotus Society. Later, I stayed at the Buddhist Lotus Society, visited the believers' homes, and saw the Japanese version of Hokkekyo's lecture in his mansion, only to find the Infinite Righteousness Sutra and Pu Xian Sutra in the Franco-Chinese trilogy. When I read the Infinite Righteousness Classic, I saw that "the silence is bright, the ambition is mysterious and desert, and hundreds of thousands of people are robbed." Infinite practice, knowing the present, gaining great wisdom and knowing all the laws. "Thirty-two words, have a strong interest in infinite meaning. On the recommendation of Xu Congmin, the master went to Fumiaoji, a village in Hualien County, and they lived in Xu's house for some time.

1962, the monk returned to Fengyuan, leaving 25-year-old Wang Jinyun alone. Wang Jinyun lost her hair herself, and now it's Shamini's stage. Xu Congmin named it "Shen Xiu". 1963, the Huguo Temple in Lin Ji, Taipei was ready to open an altar to give lectures, but Shamini, who came from Hualien and cut her hair herself, arrived in Taipei the day before the lecture. The 26-year-old monk is one of them. He planned to register at Linji Temple first, but because he had never been a teacher, he could not be ordained. Then go to the Huiri Lecture Hall Library on Julun Street to buy the complete works of Master Taixu. When he packed his books and was ready to leave, it suddenly rained. It happened that he met Yin Shun, the founder of Huiri Lecture Hall for the first time.

Instructor Yin Shun recalled the scene of that year: "At that time, I lived in Huiri Lecture Hall. Yin Hui, a former student of Women's Buddhist College, brought someone. After seeing me, she went to the library in the lecture hall and bought the encyclopedia of Master Taixu. I just heard from Yin Hui that this man was supposed to be ordained, but when he was in Hualien, he only had his hair cut because he relied on a layman named Xu Congmin as a teacher. He didn't have a monk's barber, so he realized that he couldn't enter the altar to be ordained. "

At that time, someone told him that he could actually visit a master nearby and sign up for it, but he insisted that the master should look for it slowly, so he wanted to buy an encyclopedia of Master Taixu in Huiri Lecture Hall and go back to Hualien. Unexpectedly, after buying the book, he said to Yin Hui,' I want to worship Yin Shun as my teacher!' When the old man said this, Haha Lang laughed: "I am a person! I'm not good at talking, and I don't know what he sees in me. However, I promised. Immediately gave him a dharma name' Zhang Hui' and told him to hurry back. It's almost time to sign up for the altar! "

Due to the tight opening time, Elder Yin Shun spoke for Master Yan: "Our karma is very special, and I think time is too late; But since you are a monk, you must always be a Buddhist and a sentient being! " .

At this time, Shi Yinshun's tutor saw that she was so sincere, and immediately gave him a dharma name "Zhang Hui", which enabled Wang Jinyun to rush to Lin Ji Huguo Temple near Zhongshan Football Stadium in Taipei, register for Bhikuni to wear a foot ring, and got a ring name "Yan Zheng", which is also the origin of Master Yan Zheng's dharma name. When Wang Jinyun became Cheng Yen, he returned to Hualien. After Xu Congmin built a hut in Fumiao Temple, Yan was reciting and copying the Goblet of Fire. Later, due to the collapse of the typhoon, he moved to Tsz Shan Monastery, Hualien to give lectures for four months. During the lecture, four disciples converted to the Master's Block and settled in the Haihui Temple in Keelung for three months. It was not until the autumn of 1964 that I returned to Fumiaoji, where I settled and practiced with four disciples, De Ci, De Zhao, De Rong and De En, in a small room next to a nearby Tibetan temple. In view of the fact that the Buddhist community in Taiwan Province Province generally responded to the needs of believers at that time, monks often had to go out to chant Buddhist scriptures and confess, even in the middle of the night, so they could not work hard. Yan Zheng, a 27-year-old master, insisted on "no catching up with the scriptures, no chanting, no practicing and no begging", so he made sweaters, feed bags, baby shoes and other self-sufficient lives by himself.
