Suizhou was established as a prefecture-level city in 2000. It is located in the northern part of Hubei Province at the junction of Hubei and Henan provinces. It is surrounded by Xiangyang, Jingmen, Xiaogan and Nanyang and Xinyang cities in Henan Province. It is known as "Jingzhou". It is known as the "Fortress of Henan", "Throat of Hanxiang" and "Gateway to Northern Hubei".
There are more than 20 ethnic groups including Han, Hui, Zhuang, Manchu and Miao. It has a land area of 9,636 square kilometers and a population of 2.58 million. It has jurisdiction over Zengdu District, Suixian County, Guangshui City, and Suizhou Economic Development District, Dahongshan Scenic Management Area. There are 37 towns, 8 town offices, 834 administrative villages, 7,767 villager groups, and 165 community neighborhood committees within the jurisdiction. ?

Historical evolution of Suizhou City:
It is named after the Western Zhou Dynasty. The Spring and Autumn Period belonged to the Sui, Li and Tang Kingdoms.
At the end of the Warring States Period, the Chu State was destroyed and the county was established, which was followed by the Qin and Han Dynasties.
The Jin Dynasty established Yiyang County, and the Southern and Northern Dynasties changed it to Suiyang County, and later changed it to Sui County and Beisui County.
The Northern Zhou Dynasty established two counties, Handong and Yiyang.
The Western Wei Dynasty was promoted to a state with jurisdiction over counties and counties.
In the Sui Dynasty, there was still a prefecture, which was changed to Suizhou. Later, the prefecture was abolished and Handong County was established.

On August 19, 1983, the State Council approved the cancellation of Suixian County and merged the administrative area of Suixian County in Xiangfan City into Suizhou City (county level).
On October 11, 1988, the State Council approved the abolition of Yingshan County in Xiaogan City and the establishment of Guangshui City (county level).
In 1994, except for the public security, procuratorate, armed police, and military forces, which were still under the jurisdiction of Xiangfan City, Suizhou was under the direct jurisdiction of the province as a county-level city.
In 1994, the Hubei Provincial Government changed the jurisdiction of Suizhou City from Xiangfan City to provincial jurisdiction.
In 2000, the prefecture-level Suizhou City was established.
On June 25, 2000, with the approval of the State Council, the provincial-level county-level Suizhou City was revoked and a prefecture-level Suizhou City was established. The Municipal People's Government is located in the newly established Zengdu District; Suizhou City establishes Zengdu District, and the administrative area of the original county-level Suizhou City is the administrative area of Zengdu District. The District People's Government is located on Lieshan Avenue; Guangshui City, which is managed by Xiaogan City, is placed under the management of Suizhou City at the prefecture level.
In May 2009, in accordance with the relevant spirit of the State Council, within the existing division of Zengdu District, Suizhou City, some towns and villages were set aside to form Sui County, while Zengdu District continued to be retained.
