History of Yanfeng

Huiyan Peak is the first peak of Nanyue and is located in the urban area. It is said that "the wild geese flying from the north to the south rest their wings and come back here", so the urban area is also known as Yanfeng.

In 221 BC, Qin Shihuang unified the country and divided the southern part of the original Chu state into two counties, Qianzhong and Changsha. Changsha County included the Hengyang area.

In 220 AD, Sun Wu established Xiangdong County in the southeast of Changsha County, with the county seat in today's Lingxian County; and Hengyang County in the west of Changsha County, with the county seat in today's Xiangxiang, under the jurisdiction of Steamyang ( Today's Hengyang County), Chong'an (now Hengnan County), Xiangnan, Xiangxi (now Hengshan, Hengdong, Nanyue District), Xiangxiang, Yiyang and other counties. This is the first time in history that a county is named after Hengyang.

In 589 AD, the Sui Dynasty destroyed Chen and changed the counties into prefectures. Xiangdong and Hengyang counties were abolished and Hengzhou was established. Linzheng was changed into Hengyang County. The prefecture and county seats are both on the east bank of the present river. This is the first time in history that Hengyang County appears.

On April 4, 2001, the State Council approved (Guohan [2001] No. 34): Jiangdong District, Chengnan District, Chengbei District, and Suburban District of Hengyang City were abolished and Zhuhui District and Yanfeng District of Hengyang City were established. , Shigu District, Zhengxiang District. Yanfeng District governs the five streets of Yanfeng, Baishazhou, Huangchaling, Tianma Mountain and Xianfeng Road in the original southern district of the city, as well as the original suburban areas of Xiangjiang Township (excluding Yangliu Village) and Yueping Township (excluding Lianhe, Yueping, 3 villages in Beitang) and Wenchang Township in Hengnan County. The District People's Government is located on Xiangjiang South Road.
