Folklore of Natong Town
Lu Yugong, a native of Mugong Village, Long'an County, was a scholar in the Qing Dynasty.
The literary name spread throughout Long'an County and was heard far and near. Legend has it that his fame was due to his mother's prenatal education. Mother Lu was originally the daughter of a scholarly family. She was well versed in books and rituals, and was good at educating her children. She believed that educating children should not only be done the day after tomorrow, but could get twice the result with half the effort if it could be started while in the womb.
It is said that one day, Gongmu was hoeing the fields. People nearby heard the sound of children reading from the field where Gongmu was hoeing. When they looked up, they saw Gongmu. A man was hoeing the ground alone, and there were no children around. It was strange that even if he looked closely, there were still no children. When asked why, Gongmu smiled and said nothing, saying that there were really no children here. Not long after people left, the sound of reading was heard again. Later, he gave birth to Yu Gong, who was extremely smart and could read before he entered school. After he entered school, he already knew the lessons that the teacher had not taught him and he was very familiar with it.
When he grew up, he obtained the imperial examination and was sure to win every test. He passed the examination at a very young age. People asked Gong's mother, Gong's mother said: When she was pregnant with Yu Gong, she often silently taught her fetus with poems and books, so she achieved today's achievements. There is a tall and beautiful Xixiu Mountain in the west of Long'an County, with a small mountain next to it. If you have the chance to climb Xixiu Mountain, you can see Jiuyi Mountain facing it in the distance in Pingguo.
It is said that a long time ago, because of Xixiu Mountain’s meritorious service, the emperor assigned it to take charge of the nearby peaks and put a crown on its head. Jiuyi Mountain is tall and steep. After seeing Xixiu Mountain being granted the title, he was jealous and unconvinced and had a dispute with Xixiu Mountain.
Jiuyi Mountain was unreasonable and ordered its "soldiers and horses" to shoot arrows at Xixiu Mountain. Two of the arrows hit a mountain near Xixiu Mountain, and the arrows fell in the mountain. It descended and became a lying mountain with two large caves; an arrow shot down the crown of Xixiu Mountain. The small hill next to Xixiu Mountain today turned out to be the crown bestowed upon it by the emperor.
Xixiu Mountain couldn't bear it anymore, and in a fit of anger, he punched Jiuyi Mountain and smashed it into nine pieces, turning it into nine connected peaks, which is today's Jiuyi Mountain.
In order to quell the fight between the two mountains, the emperor struck a stick between the two mountains, which turned into a surging and beautiful Youjiang River, separating the two mountains. According to Long'an County Chronicles, Sanbao Cave had already housed a god in the Song Dynasty, and it was not until the 16th year of the Republic of China that the statue of the Elephant Bodhisattva was destroyed.
It is said that a long time ago, a Feng Shui master went to Sanbao Rock to see the Feng Shui and said: "Sanbao Rock is a dragon's cave. If you bury a tomb in the rock, your descendants will surely be emperors." As soon as this statement came out, Rumors from all over. There were two families nearby at the time. After hearing the news, he immediately took the whole family to the rock to start construction on a certain day and prepare to bury his ancestors.
On that day, in order to make their descendants become emperors, both families fought to take possession of the dragon's cave in the rock. Because they refused to give in to each other, the two sides fought and injured people. The people who came around to watch saw that they were fighting inextricably and did not dare to come forward to persuade them.
At that time, a gentleman saw that people had been injured on both sides, and if this situation continued, a murder would definitely occur, so he shouted at the top of his voice: "Stop fighting, please listen to what I have to say!" "The thunderous shouts shocked everyone present, and both parties in the fight obediently stopped.
Seeing the power of his shout, the gentleman said to everyone seriously: "You have all been fooled by the Feng Shui master. How can you protect the future generations by burying the bones of your ancestors here?" What about the emperor? I think it is not easy to be an emperor. As the saying goes: 'Water can carry a ship but it can also capsize it.' Only those who are familiar with the nature of water and are good at driving a boat can ride the wind and waves to reach the other shore. Otherwise, they will be swallowed by the strong wind and waves. . In the same way, if the king of the country can do good things for the people, the people will support him and call him long live. If he implements tyranny and abuses the people, the people will surely rise up in rebellion and overthrow his throne. In the end, not only will he be massacred, It will also implicate the descendants and the nine clans. Sun Tzu once said: "Wealth is like floating clouds, how valuable is it?" Your two families are fighting hard for this dragon's lair: now that the emperor has not yet seen the shadow, you have to beat yourself to death. , I don’t think this land will have any good omens.
"
After hearing what the gentleman said, both families felt that it was reasonable. However, for thousands of years, the tradition that "good feng shui can turn a poor man into a rich man, and a good burrow can turn a snake into a dragon" Their thoughts always kept them in mind of the cave in front of them, so although the weapons in both sides' hands were temporarily put down, their greedy eyes were still fixed on the dragon's cave and the other party.
Seeing this scene, the gentleman said. Knowing that both parties still couldn't bear to part with this dragon's cave, they added: "I repeat, this cave is not a dragon's cave. According to ancient legends, since Pangu opened up the world, people have lived in the nearby villages. If there are people living there, gods will come to inspect and manage it. At that time, the Jade Emperor sent the Three Treasure Buddha here to inspect the good and evil of the people. They had some trouble traveling between heaven and earth, so they dug this hole here as a resting place.
After the cave was completed, they also issued a ban saying: This cave can only allow gods to stay and rest. If ordinary people occupy this cave, the whole family will suffer misfortune. Look again, the top of the cave is as smooth as a mirror, with several patterns painted in the center. The cave is wide and bright, with a cool breeze blowing on your face. You can enjoy the coolness and escape the heat in the dog days of summer, and keep you warm in the twelfth lunar month. Besides, there are green trees outside the cave. There are shade trees, birds singing and flowers fragrant. If it weren’t for the magic of gods and goddesses, how could ordinary people create such a cave?”
After hearing this, the two families looked at the scenery inside the cave, and they were speechless. The gentleman continued. Said:
"Three Jewels Buddha built this cave in order to inspect the good and evil of the people, but you are so audacious, defy the immortal family's prohibition, and occupy the immortal cave. Isn't this a moth chasing a fire and asking for death? You are now suffering from a bloody head, which I think is the best retribution. "
When the two families heard that they had violated the gods' prohibition and had received retribution in advance, they each shuddered and knelt down and kowtowed, saying: Sir, the words made us wake up from a dream. We have offended the gods. It is indeed a sin against the nine clans. We are willing to return the cave, repair the golden body of the Three Jewels Buddha, and offer incense, so that they can protect our sangzi and keep the weather prosperous.
From then on, the golden body of the Three Jewels Buddha was erected in the "Three Treasures Temple". During festivals, people from the surrounding area go to the cave to burn incense and worship Buddha with offerings.
