Why does Feng Shui require "hiding the wind"?
Hiding the wind in Feng Shui refers to keeping the vitality in the acupoints and preventing the strong wind from washing the acupoints and causing the vitality to drift away. Feng Shui believes that vitality is gathered by water and dispersed by wind. Therefore, it is important to obtain water, but if the acupuncture points are not protected from the wind, the vitality will be dispersed by the wind.
Guo Pu said in "The Burial Sutra", "In the land of high ridges, the sky is cloudy from above, and the vitality is exposed. The most afraid of the wind and cold is that it is easy to be scattered. It is like a person living in a secret room. If there are gaps for ventilation and the shoulders are properly carried, diseases can be achieved. Therefore, the walls should be tightly packed to allow the Qi to gather. "Therefore, the best layout for hiding the wind is to have it tightly sealed in all directions, so that the Qi can be protected from the wind and condensed."
Generally speaking, the theory of hiding the wind is mainly for mountainous areas. For plain areas, the vitality sinks underground and rises from below, and is not afraid of being blown away by the wind. Even if the acupoint is open on all sides and unshielded from all sides, it does not hinder the concentration of vitality. Therefore, the hidden wind can only be expressed through the caves in the mountain ridges.
