Yinshan Island Adventure

Last week, due to the National Day holiday, I only had one day off. In one day, I could just wash and dry myself at home, so I couldn’t go hiking. In this beautiful autumn weather, it is really a waste to stay at home. Finally, I weighed it up and used my usual time for hygiene and mountain climbing as usual.

According to Teacher Wang’s recommendation, this time we went to Yinshan Island, a small island in Taihu Lake. Teacher Wang said that the island has few tourists and the scenery along the lake is good, which is perfect for us who love taking pictures.

Taihu Lake is said to have 48 islands and 72 peaks, but in fact there are probably more than 48 islands. Among the many islands in Taihu Lake, there are very few that I can name. For example, the Yinshan Island we went to this time, I have never heard of it before.

Navigating all the way, passing through the Yuyangshan Tunnel and crossing the three bridges in Taihu Lake, we arrived at Xishan Island, which is the largest island in Taihu Lake. It is rich in loquats and bayberry. You eat loquat and bayberry every year. In the winter season, there is an endless stream of tourists who come here to pick and play, almost crowding the bridge directly leading to Xishan Island. In the past, I would come here every year to join in the fun and take my children to play. In recent years, I have not been happy with the excitement. If you want to eat, just ask someone to bring it over, or buy some from the fruit shop. Therefore, I unexpectedly discovered that I have never been to Xishan since the tunnel was opened.

Continue walking along Taihu Lake, passing through Xishan Island, and coming to a small road on the edge, which leads to Yinshan Island. The road is small, just enough for two cars to pass by. Although the road is narrow, there are still many vehicles parked there, fishing in Taihu Lake.

Walking along the path, passing an uninhabited island, we arrived at Yinshan Island. As soon as we arrived on the island, the first thing we saw was an ancient camphor tree with a history of more than a thousand years. It was lush and green, like an old patriarch guarding Yinshan Island. It is said that Yin Changsheng, a Taoist priest from the Jin Dynasty, went to the island to practice the elixir of immortality. Yinshan Island got its name from this, and the island immediately became mysterious.

Hiking all the way around the island, enjoying the scenery of Taihu Lake. The Taihu Lake Bridge is looming in the distance, and the large and small islands in Taihu Lake are scattered like pearls in Taihu Lake. There are very few people on the island. Except for the occasional villagers working on the mountain, there are no other tourists. After a while, we walked into a forest. The mountain road was winding, overgrown with weeds, and mosquitoes were flying around. At first glance, it looked like a deserted road with no one walking on it. There was an abandoned hut next to it. It really felt like a desert island adventure. My best friend said that this is the perfect place to shoot horror and suspense movies. Suddenly, the images of killing people and hiding corpses in novels and movies flashed in my mind. Fortunately it was daytime, so it was really scary to leave alone when there were four of us here.

The entire Yinshan Island is crescent-shaped, and it only takes two hours to walk around in a circle. A large number of Biluochun and various fruit trees are planted on the island, which are the main source of income for local residents.

At the entrance, I finally met a few tourists. A tourist was holding a fork in his hand. We asked what he was doing with the fork. Is it spearing fish? The other party replied that there are wild beasts here, so bring them with you for self-defense. Thinking back to the deserted mountain road we just walked through, this fork came in handy. There is also a tourist from Anhui who drove here in an RV. I bought a few Taihu crabs and planned to cook them myself.

We bought some local pomegranates and oranges on the island and brought them back.
