How to measure the size of non-standard doors

Abstract: The biggest difference between non-standard doors and standard doors is the size. Therefore, before customizing non-standard doors, it is particularly important to measure the size of the door opening. Insufficient dimensional measurement will cause great trouble in subsequent installation. There are usually five processes for measuring non-standard door dimensions: accurate communication, familiarity with the process, adequate preparation, step-by-step and standardized records. Let’s find out more with the editor below. 1. How to measure the size of non-standard doors

1. Accurate communication

First of all, we must ensure that customers have full right to know. The product introduction must be based on facts and not exaggerated. Inform customers completely of the basic process, material configuration, etc. of the product.

2. Familiar with the process

Measurement personnel must be very familiar with the process configuration of their company's products, accurately understand various definitions, thoroughly understand the standards of various process configurations, and be able to measure according to the requirements. The conditions at the measurement site are matched with the customer's requirements, and the product feature information is accurately conveyed to the customer.

3. Be well prepared

Bring all the tools before measuring, including a 5-meter-wide steel tape measure (the hook of the tape measure should be flexible and vertical, and should be checked regularly during use) , measuring notebooks, signature pens, and large-head markers. If the ground level is not clear, bring an infrared level to determine the on-site level. At the same time, you must also understand the usual configuration of the local market.

4. Step by step

During the measurement process, strictly follow the 28 basic steps one by one. Do not omit, skip, or simplify. Even if it is a very simple project, you must ask questions one by one. , don’t be self-righteous and make decisions for your customers. If the customer is unsure on the spot, he or she must communicate and inquire clearly before confirming. At the same time, the customer should be informed of possible adverse consequences, risks, etc. from a professional perspective.

5. Standardized recording

During the measurement process, when determining relevant data, record it in time after confirmation. Use the tick selection method or the complete recording method. Do not concentrate on recording together later. , effectively preventing misremembering. In addition, when filling in the data in the record book, write it neatly and clearly to facilitate identification by yourself or the person who placed the standard order. Do not write it carelessly so that you can review it when you have questions and minimize errors.

2. Non-standard door size measurement method

1. Determine product process practices

Because the size of building openings and the width-to-height ratio of doors and windows in various areas on the market are different. All the same, with the same width and size, some areas may have large double doors, and some areas may have four-door doors, and the width-to-height ratios are also different. In principle, you must do as the Romans do when you are in the country, follow the mainstream practices of the local market, and be as consistent as possible with the local customs. When the size is small, it is also necessary to ensure the maximum passing width when a single door is opened to facilitate entry and exit and prevent collisions. In principle, the net width of the normally opened door leaf should be above 800. At the same time, pay attention to the change in the net height of the door leaf so that The ratio of width to height is uniform, and the overall effect is balanced, preventing the situation of being too thin and tall or too wide and fat.

2. Determine the direction of the inner opening and the outer opening.

When encountering the following three situations during the measurement process, you should pay attention to adjusting the opening direction. The first one is because of the installation of luxurious door covers outside the door. , resulting in a limited opening angle of the door leaf, which can only reach about 110 degrees or less. The second type of door installation has no protective devices such as rain shields and awnings above the door opening. The product protection conditions are too poor and are easily affected by environmental factors. The installation location of the third door opening and the space before opening and closing are narrow, making it inconvenient for the door leaf to stay and affecting traffic. After choosing the inward opening method, the depth of the door frame and the direction of the edge must be adjusted accordingly according to the wall conditions to ensure the overall effect after installation.

3. Determine the direction and position of the hemming

In the case of outward opening, the hemming is normally outside. Pay attention to changes and adjustments when encountering the following situations. One or both sides of the outer wall are T-shaped straight walls, and the hemming cannot be installed. If the inner wall has a hemming position, the hemming can be installed, and the door leaves can also be opened outwards. At least it can ensure that the decorative effect on one side is better.

Another situation is that the exterior wall has a rich decorative effect, such as door stack-type wall tiles or cement-cast decorative moldings. In this case, the decorative effect of the edge wrapping is obviously not as good as that of the wall molding. It is necessary to make way for the decorative effect of the exterior wall, cancel the hemming or follow the inward opening method to include hemming. Make the overall effect beautiful and durable.

4. Determine the hemming method and width size

When measuring the door opening, pay attention to whether there is space or sufficient width on the three sides of the door opening on the exterior wall to accommodate the hemming. When building a T-shaped wall, the hemming must be canceled or false hemming must be made to ensure that the net size of the door leaf is convenient for passage (at the same time, the door opening must be renovated). Pay attention to whether the dimensions of the three sides of the wall are sufficient, especially under the premise of large edge configuration and large luxury door covers, including the top of the door opening. If the customer is planning to make a suspended ceiling, whether the position is sufficient and whether there is any obstruction that affects the decorative effect of the suspended ceiling. . In addition, the width of the hemming should be in proportion to the overall width of the door leaf. If it is too wide or too narrow, the overall effect of the exterior decoration will be poor.

5. Determine the fit between the edge and the wall installation

When measuring the door opening, if the exterior wall has been decorated, pay attention to whether the wall is straight. Are there any obstacles on the side? Check whether there are any raised skirting lines under the wall near the ground. If there are skirting lines, measure the accurate height and thickness. When placing the order, ask the factory to handle it in advance so that the on-site installation effect will be more efficient and beautiful. For relatively wide hems, the factory is required to weld pull tabs that facilitate nailing (should not be too obvious and can be covered by sealant) to prevent the hems from loosening or being uneven. If the flatness of the wall is too different, explain it to the customer in advance. There will definitely be gaps during installation that will affect the appearance and can only be solved through sealant filling. Let the customer be mentally prepared in advance to prevent blaming the surveyor for not blaming the surveyor for not investigating the situation early when the situation is discovered on site. Informed.

6. Determine the width of the door opening

When measuring the width, choose the lowest position of the door opening, the middle position, and the lowest position to measure three to four points. If the door frame depth exceeds 220, measure it separately. Measurements are taken at both the outermost edge and the innermost edge to prevent major errors during the civil construction process and facilitate timely adjustments. When reading, the mantissa should be carefully identified and recited silently in your mind when necessary to prevent careless mistakes such as mistaking 2010 for 2100 and 2105 for 2015. When encountering a mantissa that is not 5 or 0, avoid identifying 2 and 7, 1 and 6, and prevent interference from superposition of decimals. During the measurement process, the measurement numbers should be neatly written in the measurement record book in a timely manner, and simple diagrams should be attached to facilitate intuitive understanding. When the width difference between the upper, middle and lower points of the door opening is large, if the overall size of the door opening is small, the door opening must be corrected. In principle, it should be larger or smaller (wall correction). Although wall building is troublesome, it can be Expand the user's clear traffic width to make it more convenient for customers to use.

7. Determine the horizontal benchmark for the door opening installation position

Unless necessary, it is recommended that customers choose a door frame configuration with floor beams. Because the stability and strength of the four-sided frame are far better than those of the three-sided frame. When measuring door openings that have not yet been constructed on the ground, be sure to ask the customer to bury the ground beams about two centimeters below the completed surface of the ground (5 to 10 mm is the best size for the top end of the ground beams to be exposed after the ground is completed). For the ground that has been completed, It is recommended that customers make grooves on the ground and sink the floor beams to prevent them from being too high above the water level and affecting the passage of the elderly and children, and to prevent bumps and trips. For door openings where the location of the on-site horizontal line has not yet been determined, the owner must be asked to use an infrared level meter to measure and calibrate the door opening in conjunction with the on-site ground construction personnel or project manager as soon as possible. When determining the position of the horizontal line, it must be based on the parameters of the on-site ground construction personnel to ensure that the effect after product installation is uniform and beautiful.

8. Determine the height of the door opening

When measuring the height of the door opening, if the door opening is too high and it is inconvenient to read, you must use an escalator or scaffolding to climb up and measure. Rough estimates are not allowed. If the door opening is not too high and is within 2100, measure from top to bottom to facilitate accurate reading at the lower end and prevent sight deviation when reading from bottom to top. When calculating the height of the door frame, be sure to add the portion of the floor beam buried below the horizontal plane.

For complex door openings or door openings whose walls have been decorated and constructed, the measurement accuracy must be accurate. After the first measurement is completed, the measurement must be rechecked to ensure accuracy. For door openings such as four-door doors, when the width and height dimensions are relatively close, the words width and height must be accurately noted above or in front of the measured dimensions to prevent confusion between width and height, which may lead to unnecessary errors. In addition, during the measurement process, pay attention to the fact that when pulling the tape measure, the two sections should be aligned in parallel and not skewed. When reading, you should look directly at each other to prevent sight deviation. During the measurement and recording process, we recommend that the measurement personnel record all according to the size of the door opening. Do not use the specification size minus the installation gap to record. When all basic data are accurate, make predictions based on the controllable accuracy of the door opening size and the installation method. Carry out gap subtraction according to different principles of leaving gaps, and calculate the specifications and dimensions of product production.

9. Determine whether the product has Feng Shui size-related matters

Under normal circumstances, if there is no widespread habit of using Feng Shui size in the local market, do not use a Feng Shui ruler when measuring (avoid causing a bad feeling to customers and other on-site construction workers), but be prepared in advance. You can ask the customer's needs during the measurement process. If the customer pays attention to Feng Shui size, use a Feng Shui ruler to measure. There are two issues you need to pay attention to when using a Feng Shui ruler. The first half of the reading should be based on the size of the upper half. The size of the lower half is used for building temples and other buildings. Secondly, we must accurately understand the product process structure. If it is a double door, we must also understand the structure of the door leaf. Feng shui size is also called the light size. The maximum range that the entire door opening can pass and the range that light can pass through are based on the door opening size minus the installation gap. Then subtract the structural width. If it is found that the size difference is too large and Feng Shui dimensions cannot be made, the customer should be advised to adjust the door opening size or ask the factory to change the bending dimensions of the frame and sash process. Accurate calculations should be made to ensure that the Feng Shui dimensions are auspicious red letters, and when placing the order Special instructions were given to the factory, requiring workshop production to give priority to ensuring Feng Shui dimensions, accurately meeting customer requirements, and avoiding complaints from customers due to large measurement errors during re-examination.

10. Determine whether the customer has any other Feng Shui requirements and taboos.

Due to the influence of regional cultural inheritance, various regions have different customs and taboos in the installation of doors and windows in building houses. When measuring door openings, you should ask customers if they have any special requirements to avoid customer dissatisfaction due to ignorance of certain taboos. Such as product installation date and time requirements (some areas will ask Feng Shui masters to check the dates and times of door installation, moving, etc. before building a house), certain rituals before product installation (the door installation must be hung with red silk, and the words "Anmen Daji" must be affixed. etc.) requirements, etc. Another example is the relationship between the height and size of the front door and the back door of a house. The height of the back door should be lower than the front door, so as to attract wealth and make good fortune. There should be no central pillar falling straight down above the door to prevent taboos such as overpowering Feng Shui evil spirits. Select certain product styles and patterns to meet the psychological needs and folk customs of customers as much as possible. Prevent inadvertent oversights from affecting customer experience.

11. Determine the depth of the wall of the door opening and the depth of the door frame

When the customer wants to customize a double-layer door or choose a single door with a door frame wrapped in a wall, in addition to measuring the rough wall surface Depth, you should also carefully ask what the total depth of the wall will be after decoration of the inner and outer walls. This kind of information must be determined together with the on-site project manager (contractor) and the owner, because the methods of painting veneer and decorative materials on the inside and outside of the walls in each area are different, and the economic strength and decoration budget of different owners in the same area will also be different. larger. During the communication process, it is necessary to record in detail, such as the current depth of the rough wall, what materials are used to decorate the exterior walls, how much the thickness will increase after construction is completed, what materials are used to decorate the interior walls, and how much thickness will increase after construction is completed, etc. After accurate statistics, ask the customer to confirm, and at the same time convey the detailed requirements to the factory order receiving department.

12. Determine product functional characteristics requirements

Determine based on the actual situation on site and customer requirements. For example, public buildings, residential building passages, factories, commercial residences with dense traffic, educational facilities, etc. generally require fire prevention functions and even need to go through relevant fire protection network access procedures before acceptance. For doors installed outdoors, if there is no sunshade or rain shelter above the door opening, special attention should be paid to the product material or surface treatment to be sun-proof, anti-UV, and anti-rust.

If the room has poor ventilation, convection or lighting, customers may need to use the door-in-door process, install anti-mosquito nets, install glass lighting at the door, etc. In this case, customers are advised to use higher component configurations to ensure stable and reliable quality. During the communication process, the advantages, performance and shortcomings of the selected product should be stated in detail to the customer, so that the customer can make a rational choice.

13. Determine the relevant requirements for locks

Under normal circumstances, it is recommended that customers do not use floor locks for double doors, because dust can easily accumulate in the floor lock bucket on the lower gear of the door frame, making it inconvenient to clean. It is also unsightly (there is a matching special dustproof tube for installation at the floor latch position of the normally closed door, but the floor lock generally does not have this configuration). For products installed outdoors, it is recommended that customers choose stainless steel locks, handle panels, etc. to ensure stable and durable performance of the product; customers should be asked about the externally fixed or double-sided movable configuration of handle panels, and the different characteristics of the two methods should be explained to them so that they can Customers determine according to their own usage habits.

14. Determine the relevant requirements for hinges

Select different types of hinges according to the selected product configuration, weight, door frame edge configuration, etc., so that the door leaf can be opened smoothly to the maximum angle and easy to install Maintenance (in principle, do not use butterfly one-piece hinges). At the same time, the appearance, material, surface treatment, etc. of the hinge must be consistent with the characteristics of the product and installation location. When three or four exposed hinges are installed due to product process configuration or customer requirements, the distance between hinge installation positions must be determined based on the load-bearing stress points. Positions cannot be specified for the sake of symmetry and beauty. Even if the effect is not good-looking, priority must be given to ensuring structural stability. , this should be explained clearly to customers in advance to avoid misunderstandings among customers who pursue perfect details.

15. Determine the process method of the door head part of the product

When the door opening is high, the height of the door leaf should be appropriately increased to make the door head and door leaf height proportion even and coordinated. The ratio of net height to door leaf height should be between 1: (4-5). Even if the total height of ordinary double-door and four-door doors exceeds 3000mm, the net height of the door head should be within 700mm as much as possible to prevent the door head from being too high and affecting the overall beautiful proportions. . If the door head adopts the grate non-sealing process, in order to facilitate lighting, cleaning and maintenance, it is recommended that the customer install glass on both sides. The glass must be tempered, and the glass glue inlay must be primed on the contact surface and then applied on top. For surface glue, the heightened and widened glass should be fixed with home decoration machinery on the outer edge to prevent the heavy weight of the glass from affecting the bonding strength of the glass glue during transportation and ensure safety and reliability.

16. Determine the product installation and fixation method

During the measurement process, if you are unclear about the foundation of the wall, you should ask the owner, because many wall partitions use lightweight bricks such as hollow bricks. If the material is difficult to be firmly fixed with ordinary expansion screws, other fixing methods must be used. The factory is required to rivet pull tabs, install ears, etc., extend the stress points, fix them with cement steel nails, lengthened steel bars, etc., and it is recommended that customers install them. Cement must be poured in to ensure that the whole is firm and not easy to loosen. Embedded parts such as wooden bricks, fasteners, and welded iron parts can also be made according to the wall texture to ensure that the installation location is strong enough. For products with large sizes, add more expansion screw holes and fixing points appropriately, such as installing pull tabs above the door beams and the lower ends of the floor beams to prevent the floor beams from being buried and loosening and shaking caused by stepping in and out and collisions.

17. Determine whether the maximum opening space of the product is unobstructed

When measuring balcony doors and door openings with narrow passage spaces, use a tape measure to demonstrate and simulate the movement of the door leaf according to the hinge axis point of the door leaf hinge. Track and observe whether the door leaf can be opened smoothly to more than 100 degrees. For example, when the railing on the balcony door blocks the door leaf, what is the opening angle of the door leaf, and whether the passage space is convenient. Whether the door leaf in the narrow door opening of the outer passage (especially in an old residential building) is convenient to open, consider making a double-folding door if necessary. Are there public fire hydrants and other facilities where the door leaf is opened to prevent it from hitting the top? Check whether there is any conflict when the neighbor's door leaves are opened at the same time. If they touch each other, consider adjusting the inner and outer left and right opening directions. We also inform customers of these difficulties and allow them to choose our proposed response plan to prevent customers from thinking that we are not professional enough for not informing them in advance during the later stages of installation.
