How did Prince Edward Island get its name?
There is a beautiful Canadian legend: God created a little soil and put it in the stormy Atlantic Ocean, so it became an island called "the cradle in the waves". The local Indians called it "Abeguwitt", which means "cradle floating on waves". Later, in memory of Prince Edward, the father of Queen Elizabeth II and the son of George V, the island was named Prince Edward Island.
