Wang Zhongshan's Personal Contribution

Contribution to Guzheng Art

All of us may be familiar with Mr. Zhao. I played his Sun Red on Jinggangshan a long time ago, which left a deep impression on people. The speed is very fast, the right hand skill is very high, and it is very difficult. It's easy to play, but it's fast, and the voice of the right hand is very clear, which is difficult to do without a first-class master. Several students who have listened to Mr. Zhao told me about the idea and process of Mr. Zhao's creation of the "quick fingering technology system". Something like this: It is said that Mr. Zhao is a performing group in Henan. When playing, the guzheng couldn't keep up with the speed of stringed instruments, but just sat there stiffly and grabbed a few chords. I believe all the friends who have participated in the folk music ensemble here are deeply touched. So some people will scoff and say that you play the guzheng well, why can't you even keep up with a fast-paced melody? So he thought day and night and began to learn from some western instrument players, such as the wheel finger in guitar and the bow jumping technique in violin. In addition, he also figured out under what circumstances a person's handshake posture is the most relaxed and the most suitable for playing guzheng: that is, when sleeping, our fingers are half-held, so as to reach the limit speed. In this way, Zhao initiated a new era of guzheng performance techniques-"the system of quick fingering techniques". Inherited the essence of Zhao, and opened up and developed new ideas of guzheng art.

If we want to talk about Wang Zhongshan's major contributions, we must talk about his development and innovation in playing techniques. In terms of playing techniques, Wang Zhongshan pioneered the left-handed armor, which deserves our attention and study. I haven't worn armor on my left hand for a long time, only about three years. Before that, I have seen some people in China begin to play music with complicated left-handed skills, but not many. In recent two years, with the popularization of guzheng performance, the left hand with armor has greatly replaced the traditional right hand with armor and the left hand with nails. This is another historic breakthrough in the development and change of the left hand after Zhao Yuzhai, a guzheng master of Shandong School, wrote the guzheng song "The Year of the Breeze" in 1955. If his breakthrough lies in his left hand piercing armor, it is better to say that he applied his teacher Mr. Zhao's "quick fingering technique system" to his left hand, which is really a wonderful move! ! ! I will further elaborate this technique in the play discussed below. Secondly, the skill application of Wang Zhongshan's left and right handwheel fingers is another topic that our professional students should discuss. Here, I remember a magazine once told about the life of Mr. Wang Zhongshan, saying that he studied the pipa as a child and then the guzheng. It can be seen that the fingering skills of guzheng are not created out of thin air. As soon as I heard the wheel finger on a string of the guzheng, I thought, we have the skill of playing long notes with the finger in the guzheng, and there are also wheel fingers in the pipa, so why bother? Later, I realized that I was wrong. Wang Zhongshan borrowed the wheel finger of the pipa, adding the unique timbre of the pipa. Indeed, I found that in Wang Zhongshan's adaptation of Yi dance music, a lot of finger-turning techniques were used, both continuous and single-fingered, which were much looser than finger-shaking. Single finger sounds grainy and beautiful; The continuous wheel fingers with long lines have a translucent feeling, and the pearls fall on the jade plate. In addition, in Wang Zhongshan's work "Ai Shan", after the left hand fingered quickly, the left hand opened a string and played a few more notes, resulting in a melody with compact rhythm, strong sense of rhythm and dancing nature. In fact, there is also a skill of playing the wheel in the wheel finger, which was used at the beginning of the adapted Yi dance music. Thirdly, what is admirable about Wang Zhongshan is that he dares to think what others have not thought and do what others have not done. He actually let us new generations of guzheng follow in his footsteps and shake our fingers with our left hand. What a great pioneering work! ! ! Although finger waving is nothing to our professional students, finger waving with the left hand is as fragile and gentle as life in the cradle. However, Wang Zhongshan is like a mother. When she is mature, she doesn't say anything, still tugs at us, and even forces us to grow up, making our left arm as strong as our right hand. So in his work "The Sound and Picture of Yunling", he adopted the technique of "shaking his fingers with both hands", which made the melody of two long lines in the guzheng possible. Completed the task that A Zheng failed to complete.
