The competent departments of forestry, grassland and fishery in the State Council are respectively in charge of the protection of terrestrial and aquatic wildlife in China.

The competent forestry and fishery departments of the local people's governments at or above the county level are respectively in charge of the protection of inland wildlife and aquatic wildlife within their respective administrative areas.
