The Red Army’s 25,000-mile Long March into the snowy mountains and grasslands took place in what is now the Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province.

Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture (Ganze Prefecture for short) is located in the west of Sichuan Province, on the southeastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The total area is 153,000 square kilometers. The whole prefecture governs 1 county-level city in Kangding, 17 counties including Luding and Danba, 325 townships (towns), and 2,679 administrative villages.

The state capital is located in Kangding City, which is the political, economic and cultural center of the whole state. It is famous at home and abroad because of the song "Kangding Love Song" and is known as the hometown of love songs.
