What does Shenhou mean?

Shen Monkey is the zodiac sign.

Shen is one of the earthly branches, and is usually regarded as the ninth of the earthly branches. The preceding one is Wei and the following one is You. Shen month is the seventh month of the lunar calendar, and Shen time is from 15:00 to 17:00 in the 24-hour clock, pointing to west-southwest in direction. In the Five Elements, Shen represents gold, and in the Yin-Yang theory, Shen represents Yang. Shen means groaning, so it also refers to the state of the plant's fruits entering a solidified state after they mature. In later generations, in order to facilitate their memory, people assigned the order of each earthly branch to each zodiac sign, so Shen was matched with the monkey of the twelve zodiac signs.

The earthly branches are: Zi, Chou, Yin, Mao, Chen, Si, Wu, Wei, Shen, You, Xu and Hai.

Corresponding zodiac animals: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, chicken, dog, pig.

The zodiac signs have a strict correspondence with the earthly branches, specifically: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Xu Dog, pig. The stems and branches are used to record the four pillars, namely: year, month, day, and hour. So the zodiac sign works too. Since the lunar calendar is a lunisolar calendar, there are two algorithms for the year and month. Therefore, there are also two algorithms for the year and month of the stems and branches. As a result, the algorithm of zodiac year and month has become controversial.
